As a long-time fan of British mysteries, I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Hogarth's book. The only thing holding back a 5th star is the number of errors that should have been caught by an editor (but would sail through Spellcheck). I am reasonably well versed in British idioms, and these are not the issue. I am referring to two types of errors:

1. The misspelling of brand names (should be Doc Martens with an "e" for example) and actresses (should be Heather Locklear).
2. The use of the wrong word...in some cases they were pretty humorous : "hey fever," "nervous tick," "abs and pecks," "both peaked over my shoulder," he "span" around and his "disfigured and scared top lip."

I would hope that these and similar typos could be corrected in an updated edition. They are distracting and do not sit well with literate readers.

That being said, despite the violence and cruelty depicted in the character of the killer, I was able to deal with those aspects and thought the descriptive scene-setting was extremely well done.

This book flowed pretty good from antagonist to protagonist, switching every few chapters. But it was still easy to follow. One thing I didn't like was how smug both of them were. I have seen TV programs like it and have been turned off by the personalities of smart people who think they are IT. But just bear with it and it does get better.

I agree with other reviewers... good book although sometimes very intense. The spelling errors were distracting, but if you are able to overlook them, the book was a very good read.
I hope that this author plans on creating a series with these characters. It would be fun to see how they grow and develop.

coming from the home town of Agatha Christie in the UK, this author had a lot to live up to, and you wont be disappointed. A book that keeps you on the edge of your seat to the very last period. If you read this, you will not be able to put it down
