Editorial Reviews

Expanding on the feature film, this poignant series centers on the rural town of Dillon, Texas, where the coveted state football championship rings are held in the highest regard. Dillon's promising high school team, its star quarterback, and newly appointed head coach feel the mounting pressure of the town's pride and honor riding on their shoulders as a new football season kicks off. The soundtrack includes Tony Luca, The Killers (soundtrack exclusive), Spoon, Outkast, Whiskeytown, Stereophonics, Starsailor, Jibbs, So Divided, Drive By Truckers, Iron And Wine/Calexico, Jose Gonzalez, Chris Brokaw, and Explosions In The Sky.

The Friday Night Lights soundtrack is perfect for anyone who loves the show, and is definitely enjoyable to a stranger of the series. Some standout songs on the album are The Killers' "Read My Mind" and "So Divided" by And You Will Know Us By the Trail of the Dead. But no doubt the best song is Tony Lucca's "Devil Town", an amazing, hard to find song that defines the show perfectly. The only problem with the CD is its lack of great instrumental songs played throughout the show. It doesn't have the show's opening theme or Explosions in the Sky's "Remember Me as a Time of Day." The CD does have Explosions in the Sky's instrumental "First Breath After Coma", but it's not the best song they could've gone with.

This is a must-buy for any Friday Night Lights fan, or even for anyone wanting to listen to great songs by mostly unknown artists.

The long out-of-print vinyl version of the Friday Night Lights Soundtrack had risen in value so much that it was out of the price range of most causal listeners. The soundtrack prominently features post-rock mainstays Explosions in the Sky, along with a small selection of other artists.

I purchased this as the 2LP re-release.

The soundtrack is magnificent in itself. Mostly instrumental post-rock from EitS carry you away on a wave of emotions. It's a wonderful treat to put on a Saturday morning or anytime you need instrumental music.

The packaging was nice. A wonderful gatefold. heavy duty cardboard sleeve. The artwork looks nice.

The pressing is spot on. Sounds wonderfully clear. Played on a Sony TT with AT needle.

No warps or off pressing here. For fans for the movie, TV show, or post-rock. This album is a must buy.

This is a great soundtrack that brings back all the good memories of the first season of FNL every time I listen. I do miss the theme song though. There's a good variety of music, just like the shows had.

FNL has an amazing soundtrack...in the show. I have no idea how these specific songs were picked to represent the overall aura of the show, but I consider this soundtrack a disappointing failure. I purchased FNL: Vol 2 soundtrack a year ago and loved it. I thought this would be just as good. I should have listened to the reviews on Amazon already. If you're looking for a good FNL soundtrack, buy Vol 2. There are only 1-2 good singles on this album. Buy those separately. Not worth $10.

Maybe it's my fault for not listening to the preview of each song before purchase. But is it too much to ask that the "Original TV Soundtrack" have the THEME SONG to the show?!? WTF? Who creates these soundtracks with mediocre songs that no one cares about and leaves out the one song people would buy this album for? Terrible product, false advertising, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

I thought there would be more of the 'background' music from Explosions in the Sky. If you want a good simple mix of Tejas BarBand stuff, this is a OK CD, but if you want more of the soul of the music, shop and buy the CDs by Explosions in the Sky.

This album offers a wide selection of music genres. There are a few 5 star worthy songs but not enough to carry the whole album.
