Moody uses to many words that the story becomes tedious to get through. Eugeena, the main character thinks things, then she says the same exact thing to another character. Feelings and thoughts are repeated numerous times (I guess incase the reader didn't catch it the first few times), which made the book longer than it needed to be. I think I would have enjoyed Eugeena more if she hadn't been so long-winded. Another thing, is it seems as if the author tried to get every saying, or belief she's ever had into the one book. And lesser characters weren't fully developed.
I enjoy reading about black characters, I can relate, which always makes the story more interesting for me. I also enjoyed the budding romance between Eugeena and Amos, so cute! (I didn't enjoy the way that Eugeena kept talking about it in her head, though.)
I won't read another one by this author, but I'm definitely looking up how to make oven-fried chicken, gotta keep my sugar in check!
I loved the character of Eugeena - strong, smart, kind and very relatable. I enjoyed her common sense approach to sleuthing - no running into danger for this smart woman! My favorite cozy mysteries have family at their core and I enjoyed reading about Eugeena's family, friends and neighbors. The mystery kept me reading and I loved the ending! The book was a delightful introduction to a sleuth I want to read more about!
I can't wait to read the next book!
Eugeena, the president of the Sugar Creek neighborhood watch, has been retired all of a week and her plans were to begin a new healthy life and get her diabetes under control. However, her life is soon filled with neighborhood robberies, murder, family secrets and...hmmm, romance! In Columbo like style, her inner sleuth surfaces and plunges her into the world of who dun it and why. A great cast of characters brought humor as you try to solve the case.
I absolutely love it when the main character is a “seasoned”citizen, so much wisdom.....great job, Tyora Moody
I would recommend this book to a readers group and use it to play games to see who finds out the killer first.
Moody this was well worth the read!
