This was a fun and really cute read and it is pretty low on the angst. I love the angst, but sometimes it is nice to get away from it for a while. It is also a super short read, so that was nice. Perfect book to get lost in for an hour or two.
Colin and Briana were high school sweethearts, who broke up before Colin went to college. This story takes place four years after the breakup and follows their reconnection. It was so cute and heartwarming to watch these two come together again. I was rooting for them from the get go.
The story is very predictable, but at the same time it is fun. Honestly, if it went any other way than what I had predicted, I would have been very upset. This is a great book to read when you want something that won't rip your heart out along the way.
Make It Last is a great story about coming home and finding yourself and your new dreams.
I Choose You
I liked Make It Last, but I really enjoyed I Choose You. Probably because I really really love Kent. See I had a hard time fully forgiving Colin (even though I did), but I had no such problem with Kent. He is an absolute sweetheart and it hurts that he doesn't realize just how good he is.
I seriously love the low amount of angst in these books. There are problems and issues to overcome, but they aren't overly dramatic or unreasonable. I loved watching the characters fall for each other and make each other better people. Nicole and Kent are adorable together and are exactly what each other needed. Both had very different upbringings, but they are both people who needed a new family and they could give that to one another.
I also love that is was a quick read. I easily got lost in the story and finished up ready for the next story.
Trust In Me
I enjoyed Briana and Colin's story, I really liked Nicole and Kent's story, but I loved Rich and Roni's story! I just felt like there was so much more to this installment. Also we all know how much I love broken characters and our poor Roni is very broken.
Rich has been my favorite since I met him in book one. I just find him hysterical but incredibly sweet at the same time. I loved watching him find someone who he could fall in love with. Then we have Roni and my heart just breaks for this girl. She is so young and has been through so much. I wanted her to be happy in the worst way possible and I wanted her to see that Rich could make her happy.
I had been enjoying this series, but this story just captured me. I feel like I have been waiting for this to happen since Roni was introduced to Rich and I was not disappointed by it.
Make It Last
This second chance romance is the story of Briana and Colin. Colin broke things off with Briana when he went off to college, figuring that maintaining a long distance relationship would be too difficult. But now he's back in town and wants Briana to give him a second chance. Can she forgive him and trust him again?
I really enjoyed this story! It had a very realistic feel to it with respect to the situations and emotions experienced by young adults as they navigate the college/work world. All the characters were interesting and diverse. I liked that Colin realized he had made a mistake in breaking things off with Briana and was willing to put in the time and effort for her to learn to trust him again. The sexual tension between them was well written and led to some steamy love scenes. There were several secondary characters introduced that will get their own stories and I look forward to reading them all! 4 stars.
I Choose You
This new adult romance is the story of Nicole and Kent. Both have left toxic family environments and ended up in the same small town, where Kent is working for a newspaper and Nicole works at a bar and continues her main love of writing on the side. Kent is a bit of a playboy, never committing to one woman after seeing the mess of his parent's marriage while Nicole is the type of woman who is only interested in a serious partner. Can these two opposites find a future together?
I really enjoyed this story! Having read the first book in the series the characters of Nicole and Kent had been introduced and I had been looking forward to seeing where this story would take them. I found Kent to be a very likeable man, very protective of his younger sister, a mature individual. He's always been up front with the women he's been with that he isn't interested in anything long term. But with Nicole he finds that he enjoys just being with her and the more time they spend together, the more he gets attached. Nicole was also a very engaging character. I particularly liked that she stuck to her own ethical decision to save her virginity for marriage and that Kent didn't try to dissuade her from her convictions. I thought this was a very realistic take on a sexual relationship between two young adults, that there can be "fooling around" without going "all the way". There are some sexy scenes between them but they are limited in term of what is comfortable for Nicole. The secondary characters play an important role in the story, friends and family of Nicole and Kent, adding some fun camaraderie as well as some tension to the plot. Overall this was a quick and entertaining read with believable characters and a sweet romance. 5 stars!
Trust In Me
I loved this third story in the Friends and Lovers trilogy (can be read as a standalone, though characters have been previously introduced in the series). Roni is recovering from an abusive homelife and marriage and sees Rich for the playboy type that he is. But Rich has a more serious side to him, and now that he has the chance to be with Roni, he's willing to do what it takes to show her that he's worthy of her time and attention. Though their relationship starts out backwards with a one night fling that Roni insists will not become anything serious, the more time they spend together reveals to her that Rich is really the nice guy that he seems to be - caring, friendly and supportive. The love scenes between them are steamy and well written. Secondary characters, friends and family of Rich and Roni play an important role in the story and the development of their relationship. It was a pleasure to see them get their act together and for Roni to get the man that she deserves and her happy ending. 5 stars!
At the end of this collection there is also a short epilogue written for each of the couples whose stories are featured here. I thought this was a lovely touch to tie up the series.
