By Avi Loren Fox on May 26, 2021
I haven't a gobbled up a book this quickly and a long while. Smiley masterfully takes you on a journey through the architecture of friendship in a way that is inspiring and also accessible. This book made me not only reflect on and appreciate the rituals I have within my own friendships, but also filled with excitement two more intentionally be a good friend and make new friends. I highly recommend this book and will definitely be buying copies for... you guessed it... my friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars playful, practical, and packed with possibilities
By Leslie Forman on May 4, 2021
I love this book! Friendship in the Age of Loneliness is a collection of delightful, inspiring, and utterly doable ideas to build stronger connections with friends. Smiley makes a strong case for making friendship a top priority. He writes in a playful style that's easy to understand, going deep on presence and connection. This is a book I'll keep on my nightstand, re-reading a few pages at a time to continually savor its message. I particularly appreciated his section on emotional fitness, which includes questions we can use to discuss how effectively our friendships are meeting each other's needs (see photo). I look forward to experimenting with the ideas in this book, especially as we emerge from this pandemic with new possibilities for in-person connection as well as a deeper understanding of how much we want to spend time together.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift for 2021
By molly keehn on June 7, 2021
I relished every page of this book. Engaging, easy to read, and simultaneously humorous and heartwarming -- It is a book for the coffee table, to return to over and over again.

I have tremendous respect for Smiley because of his authenticity, courage, generosity, and clear thinking about equity and justice. All of that shines through throughout this book.
It serves as a critical and timely reminder that connection is what matters most, and provides guide to help center it. It has already inspired me to re-connect with two friends I had lost touch with, start a monthly card club, and ask more thoughtful questions with the people I spend time with.

I have already bought three copies for friends, and they were just as delighted with it as I was – it is the perfect gift for 2021!
