So exactly two years ago I bought the Frigidaire. I had the previous model which I was happy with and I read this one was even better. For pretty much the same price.
So it came. It worked the summer and fall of 2016. Then it rested and then worked the summer and fall of 2017. It gave me an error, the infamous F0, a couple of times, but then it worked on. This spring I saw it kick in and then after a while the error came. I reset it....same. And no denumidifying. After a couple of days I decided to call Frigidaire and vent. After all, the new looking all polished unit after less than a year of pure working time just croaked. Then, after reading some users' accounts of dealing with the F0 I decided to open the unit first, after all I am an EE.
Upon having it opened I saw the whole condensor having rusted out. Leakage of some sort. Probably lost the freon due to this.
So I called.
To my amazement (I expected to hear some "we're sorry but....") the customer service promptly advised me of the buyout of these units. They sad they would at their discretion either refund the money or replace the unit. I submitted the document (easy) over the email, and after not hearing anything for two weeks I received a new unit (I was prepared to get the refund which is the amount less tax and was really surprised).
So. Really great attitude of the customer service. Even if it indicates there is some known issue(s) with the model they are aware of and won't admit, but will just replace an out of warranty unit, and from what I understood, mine is not alone.
The new unit is working as it should now, I have to get rid of the previous one. It happened one week after the bulk pickup in our town.
So....even though the unit has reliability problem, I'm hoping maybe since the issue has been identified, maybe in newer units it got addressed.
Two stars deducted for reliability. But one is added back for the customer service.
Let's hope this one lasts longer. The previous 70pt model has been with me for over three years now.
THE STORY CONTINUES.
As you might see one ore star got deducted.
The unit is no longer being manufactured. It seems like Frigidaire decided to pull the plug on the 70pt one.
I was wondering when they would either figure out what's wrong with it, or kill it. They did the latter.
But here what happened after the 1st replacement in 2018: I got this unit and it worked exactly 1 year, until in August 2019, right before I was going away on vacation (these things have the way to pick the time to fail) it showed me F0. I called, they wanted me to wait 48 hrs and run it again, so this had to be postponed 'till after the vacation. I came back and got another F0 within 24 hrs with the coils freezing, so they sent me another unit. This time it was FFAP70 with a pump.
It worked exactly one year, and about 6 days ago it gave me F0. I waited 48 hours, then plugged it in and got another F0 soon after.
Now they sent me FFAP50. So my wondering when they would kill the unit was not unfounded: they did. After all, how many times and to how many people should a company send a product before it becomes....unprofitable.
I am gonna miss the old unit: it was much more convenient for using in a large basement. It would blow to the side and the hose was from the other side: I had it blowing along the long wall and hose-drained it to the sump pit. Quick and nice air drying. Now the blowing is up: not as good air circulation.
Well. One more star deducted for reliability.
Again, can't say enough good words for the customer support and for the company standing behind the product.
But, alas - the product was flimsy.
I hope maybe they will eventually make a similar 70 pt one that lasts.

Called amazon and they say the item cannot be returned because it has paseds the one month window period, suggested me to call the manufacturer. I called Electrolux manufacturer and explained what happened to them and they tell me to unplug it and plug in again after a while. I did and the same code F0 came back and called them again. They were at first very friendly and then said they would start a replacement for me and told me that the case would go to the review board and got an answer in about 2-3 days. Got no answer from them after 2 days, called them again and they said they had sent me an email. I told them I have never received it and they said they would sent it again. Got the email and they said they would buy it back at the original purchase price without tax and would send me a debit card. That means I am going to lose the tax on a defective product after using it for 2 months. Talk to their supervisor named Sharon and she said she is doing all she could because I bought it from Amazon.ca which is not a retailer and not a point of sale place and the tax was not collected by them. Discussed and explained the situation to her and she said that this is their law and I can either take it or leave it despite it is under warranty. She also said it would be more costly to buy it back from me as the manufacturing cost or selling cost to retailer is less to them. Called Amazon.ca again to see whether they can extend the return period and they say no . My old whirlpool dehumidifier lasted me 5 years and this one only 2 months. It was great when it worked. I have but to accept the policy as I have lost confidence in the product and tell myself to buy another machine instead of Frigidaire.
The lesson is not to buy big or larger appliance from Amazon and try to avoid Frigidaire product.
Summer time (since i use air conditioning) i empty it every two days.
So far so good. Hope this last long.
Only one downside... little loud. If I have a guest in the basement, the guest usually turn it off or they closed the room door because of noise.
