This is the last and easily the best of the Fringe soundtrack albums. The show itself took a somewhat bizarre turn in its final season, having started as a basic procedural with supernatural monsters, slowly but surely adding romance, political maneuverings, and philosophical elements, and then suddenly becoming a dystopian action adventure. However, the score is one of the main things that holds it together. Despite the shorter season, the album is as long as the others (a solid 1.2 hours of music), and maintains the classic Fringe sound of expressive celli and wistful solo piano intermixed with electronics, while brimming with energy. The rarely used top keys of a piano accentuate the heart-wrenching conclusion.

I'm hovering on 4.5 stars; it's still a purchase mostly for fans of the show and its sound but I'll go for 5 stars. If you aren't a fan this album might make you one.

Am I a geek? Yes. I am. Could I possibly be the president of the Fringe Fan Club? Entirely possible. Is this music hauntingly wonderful. yes. Yes it is. Get it. Listen. And love. There are a couple of these tracks that I could listen to all day without any human contact. But I don't do that, it would be quite odd. I really miss this show. Our next Fan Club meeting is on Friday at 2. See you there.

Chris Tilton concludes his epic work on this series in Season 5. Although this season takes a very different turn from what we are used to in Fringe, we still get the quality show we deserve. Chris Tilton's music takes on new life with new characters and some excellent reboots on the themes we know and love. I would say that Fringe has been Mr. Tilton's best work yet. I would also be willing to say this is some of the best music composed for television.

Chris Tilton has been one of the true MVP's of Fringe's production. Just like the outstanding cast of this show, he was there for each and every episode since he started on the show in late Season 1, and probably understands these characters almost as well as the actors themselves. Usually when a show is on its final season and is operating with a lower budget, the music suffers. This did not happen with Fringe, and in fact, the scoring for Fringe's Season 5 was among its very best, with some new and very memorable themes added, and old ones expressively revisited. (I did notice some momentarily distracting studio noise on some tracks.) I would give this four and a half stars if I could (though the superlative Season 3 soundtrack remains above even this very fine presentation). You will want to have this in your collection if you are a connoisseur of film and TV scoring.
