... At least for the first few times I used it. After a while (I'd say after a good 10 uses) that's when it began decided not to work at times. I still use it but there are times when it doesn't work at all and times where it works perfectly. I kept the microphone in excellent storage so I do not think that mishandling it was the issue. When I use it I have to double, triple, even quadruple check to make sure it is working properly. Even then when I think it is doing fine, I will review my recording only to find out the microphone turned off in the middle of the recording. It's annoying and I don't even use it much anymore. I would rather have my crappy computer microphone that stays on the whole time than a great audio recording that craps out in the middle of the recording. You have no idea how many videos I have had to re-record because of this problem.
I don't recommend this microphone, you will probably have better luck buying a different microphone. I just don't trust this microphone anymore. Now I am looking into a new one.
I bought it a month ago and so far it has been working nicely. I record things on my XP computer; the voice comes out nice and clear. Even the music I record sounds decent. My son has been borrowing it, so I am ordering one for him right now.
Recommended for household use, internet conversations, skype, etc. Good price.
(Update 5/19/2013) Bought another one that doesn't sound good at all, all muffled and weird. Then I ran the "setup your microphone" wizard in Windows 7, and suddenly it sounded much better, really good. The first one didn't need any setup with Windows XP. Some reviewers mention that theirs didn't sound right. Maybe they needed to run the setup thing.
The first mike has been working great and the second mike is good so far.
(Update 10/20/3013) First mike quit working, so now I am shopping for another one. Not getting another one of this.
i tested the sound/playback through audacity and a few other programs, also i do fps gaming (counter-strike primarily), and you're able to listen to your microphone feed via that game (voice_loopback 1, just in case you play that game), and it's definitely a podcast sound microphone.
the reason for 3 stars is merely because of the base - it's pretty cheap looking in my personal opinion, but it definitely has a nice quality feel to it, so don't get me wrong, it's decent but i'm not a fan of it. and second to note, the base came in dirty - had a legit kind of sand/dirt marks on it, had to clean it off, very surprising. i'm not too sure if the base was new with my model, or it was a refurbished one, so you might not have that same problem.
the box itself deserves some kind of review too - it was like the most amazing quality feeling box i've received, had a very crisp touch to it, didn't even look like it was opened to put the microphone in it, basically the microphone was magically put into the box by wizards, probably.
i'd recommend this mic for "beginners" (is that the right word? who knows), and don't expect crystal clear results unless you have a decent onboard soundcard, or a actual soundcard! you've been warned (but really, it's good even if you have a poop one too).
