This is new book from Sandra Boynton that surprised me by the quality of the content. I have small kids and i read Everything that comes my way to my kids from 50's onward. Usually books that contain CD or DVD with them, I authomatically disregard the content of the CDs and DVDs because their quality is well below the one of the book. I first got the book from my public library where I usually get all my book (currently have circa 80 childrens books at home!!). I don't buy the book unless the book is of that quality that the author/illustrator impresses me that I want to know everything about them and read everything from them.
This book contains 12 songs lyrically adjusted to kids (my estimate 4-10 yr olds).

The best 3 songs are:

1. Trucks - country song the simplicity of the lyrics is impressive. quote " This song is about Trucks and it's called (suspense) Trucks"
..."as long as it's a truck, well it's just fine with me" I dont listen country music, but I respect it, and if the kids have to be exposed to the genre, this song is lyrically tailored country song for the kids.

2.Frog Trouble - the music is the one you remember from the western movies, harmonica..it sets you in that mood. quote "If you ask me how I'm doing today, I shake my head. I've got 2 things to say: Frog Trouble. And here is 2 more: Frog trouble Hmm-mm"...
"It's been pretty rough. You've got to be tough...Oh, no. Another frog stampede."

3. Heartache Song - Kacey Musgraves sings: "I Must take a bath. But I've had one before. I'm so upset. I can't take it anymore."

4. Copycat - at the end of each lyrical line background vocal repeats/copycats the words "Now I have a new kitty called Maybellene, with pretty eyes of blue. But she's not the only Mybellene I've ever seen. You each have Maybellene too."

If "Philadelphia Chickens" by Sandra Boynton got Grammy nomination, this one deserves Grammy Award.
The quality of the music is excellent and you can expose your kid to various musical genres. Nothing even close on the market, if you think there is, let me know I am curious. Oh and illustrations, brilliant as always, but there aren't many, as the focus is on songs. There is so much into this book, even the pattern to make paper frog puppet!

I bought 2 copies, one for me another for present.

Music lovers make the mistake of assigning certain music to "children" only, never thinking they can enjoy it.

Sandra Boynton shatters that myth with her albums, including Frog Trouble. C'mon, Dwight Yokam singing about his dog Hank? Brad Paisley singing about friendship? Josh Turner singing about *anything*? Who can resist?

No one should. No one of any age should turn down the opportunity to listen to -- and sing along with -- these enjoyable songs. I may be an adult, but I'm no fool. And I've never met a listener (of any age) who didn't appreciate the humor and astounding honesty that permeate Boynton's songs.

Stop what you are doing and order this album right now. Then, when it arrives in the mail, stop what you are doing and listen to it. Then listen again. Then call your friends over to listen. Then pick up your daughter (or granddaughter) and dance with her to a song or two. They're that good, and that fun.

A special thanks to recording artists who share Boynton's vision and humor and help her bring them to life. I hope they all enjoyed it as much as we do, and will, for as long as the music lasts.

In my opinion there will never be a better children's song book/CD than Philadelphia Chickens.

This is almost as good. It's also much more country flavored.

Kids will adore it, most parents won't tear their hair out listening to it every day for four years.

If it starts to wear on you, just go out and buy all Sandra Boynton's original children's music books. You won't regret it, and it will make you feel less guilty when that ONE song comes on that ends up scraping your nerves. It's okay we all end up with at least one. It's allowed.

I purchased this for my granddaughter when she was 14 mos old, and thought her parents would probably wait until she was about two before they started using it, but they started playing it recently (she's 17 mos old) and the baby loves "the dog song" as they refer to it. She dances and sings along with her baby words. She gets exposed to a lot of music from classical to contemporary and really loves music. So, if you are interested in this book and CD for a child, I don't think you have to worry about how old they are. If they love music they will probably like this Country style music. The words are clearly enunciated too, which helps a child sing along. And when the child learns to read, he or she can read along with the words while they sing.

I should also add that the music and words are NOT driving the parents nuts!

This is an amazing album and book. We've loved Sandra Boynton's board books for years but I hadn't appreciated how diverse her talents are. The music here is great -- really genuinely enjoyable for kids and adults alike, particularly fans of country music. That makes it a rare find. The truck song is a particularly favorite, as trucks are a particular interest of my boys (and the song really captures a toddler's delight at different kinds of trucks without being remotely cloying). This would be a great baby gift or gift for a young family. The book is lovely but my kids don't ask to read it as often as we listen to the CD.
