Flavor Name: Cut & Sifted Valerian Root Verified Purchase
I'm a life-long insomniac and I've tried a lot of things to help. Valerian works for me...sometimes. It's not the preparation or company, I think it's just my own chemistry. However it will mellow me down a bit, even if not as much as I'd hope, and this is nice valerian. I wish it were slightly more finely-ground, but I can fix that myself.

I will admit that I really don't mind the smell or taste of valerian, despite all the horror stories you read from other people. I don't love it, but, eh, it's earthy. For me it's far easier than kava, which I've tried on several occasions and sometimes literally makes me sick to my stomach.

A couple tips for dealing with the taste of the tea:
--Brew it in mason jars. Put valerian in jar, add hot water, and CAP. Wait 'till cool. It really doesn't smell nearly as bad then, and it doesn't need to be hot to work.
--I frequently make the tea very strong, and add it to fruit juice at about a 1:1 proportion. I find it blends particularly well with cranberry juice. I'd rather have it that way than add sugar or honey--the tanginess of the cranberry seems to be key.

My husband has been suffering with chronic pain after a couple of surgeries caused some nerve damage. Although the surgeries where sucessful, my husband has suffered with terrible pain for over 4 years now. As anyone with chronic pain will tell you, the most difficult problem with pain is getting quality sleep. He has been lucky to getting more than a couple of hours of sleep nightly until beginning to use Valerian Root.

He brews a tea with the Valerian Root using his espresso maker. Although the tea itself has a pretty foul odor, it helps soothe the pain in his abdomen and relax him so that he can fall asleep quickly. He now averages several hours of sleep daily. A great improvement!

We had tried Valerian capsules, teas, and other types of mixtures with valerian and found that the organic valerian root gave a measurably better result. He goes through about 2 lbs of valerian root per month. He has a high tolerance to any nsaid or norcotic type prescription so if you find these drugs to impact you heavily, you will probably use 1/2 to 1 pound of the root per month. Also, make sure you make your pharmisist and doctor aware of the use of valerian root due to some possible side effects. Definately do not drive after taking valerian root until you know how it will impact you.

We recommend this product for anyone looking for an alternative to other drug therapies. The Valerian root is both fresh and certified organic. Also the pricing is excellent and comes in freshness bag. we squeeze the air out of the bag and clip it to keep the root fresh. The cut is extremely uniform making it easy to measure to see what will work for you.

UPDATE:

Valerian Root has been used for ages for sleep and works well for this.

Uric acid crippled me. I spent approximately 5 years on crutches before discovering the combination of apple cider vinegar, unfiltered an not pasteurized, and alfalfa powder. I stooped using alfalfa, thinking the apple cider vinegar would take care of the problem. I was wrong. Serious uric acid (gout) problem takes both.

I mix this alfalfa leaf powder with brewers yeast as a top dressing for my dog's raw food diet. He's a miniature schnauzer and he is bonkers for it and can't get enough. Great nutrition, good price, too.

Flavor Name: Cut & Sifted Valerian Root Verified Purchase
I bought the bulk Valerian root tea from Frontier because it was significantly less expensive than the tea bag version from Alvita which I had been using previously. When I got the bulk product I soon discovered that it took at least twice as much tea to get even half the coloring and flavor of Alvita product, and the smell and taste was less appealing than usual (All Valerian Root tea has a rather pungent smell and taste that takes a bit of getting used to no matter who you buy from). I contacted Frontier to ask them why their product was so much different than that of Alvita. After their rep spoke with their buyers they told me that the batch that I received was from some product that only met their minimum acceptability standards, and that their product usually met a higher standard. I suggested that they should re-visit their minimum acceptability standards since it certainly wasn't acceptable to me, and probably to a lot of other consumers. They told me to request a refund through Amazon and if I had any trouble with that, that they would issue me a credit for the amount that I had paid. Amazon issued me a refund, and told me to throw away the product. I then purchased the Valerian Root pre-bagged tea from Alvita and am once again enjoying what is apparently a higher quality tea. At least my taste buds and nose think so. Because of the way Frontier handled the situation, and because I have had good success with some of their other products, I will definitely buy from them again in the future...just not this tea.

This product is very well packaged and is exactly as described, a very fine powder, clearly organic. An easy way to tell if something is organic for someone like me with a very sensitive nose is by any out-gasses that occur (or not) when the product is opened.
I use this as a food supplement for myself and my animals. I've also bought kelp, so I mix a little kelp with a little alfalfa and add it to my animals' food and sometimes my salads. feel I am doing something helpful for myself and them.
