After the fermentation process is completed the yeast is harvested, thoroughly washed, pasteurized, and dried on roller drum dryers. The B vitamins are both naturally produced during fermentation, and added to the cream prior to the drying process. Riboflavin (B2) and Cyanocobalamin (B12) are created during fermentation. Additional Riboflavin (B2) and Cyanocobalamin (B12) are added after fermentation along with Thiamine (B1), Pyridoxine HCL (B6), Niacin and Folic Acid.

I can't believe all the good reviews this product got

To be honest, I can't believe all the good reviews this product got. I've been using yeast flakes for years, and this brand is just awful. First of all, it's more like a powder than a flake, but more importantly, it has a strong, bitter taste other brands I've tried just don't have.

I use yeast flakes as a substitute for grated cheese (I'm a plant-based eater), and KAL and Bob's Red Mill brands for example, are excellent - mild tasting and delicious. I dislike giving bad reviews, but I'll never order this product again. Amazon carries both KAL and Bob's Red Mill brands. You can't go wrong with those.

I really hate giving this a 2 star review. I really do enjoy the taste and simplicity of the packaging! We simply dump it into our jar and go on about our day. It's very good in all of our "cheesy" vegan recipes. Popcorn, cheese sauce, mac n cheese, gravy, soup, etc. I routinely toss nutritional yeast into something I'm cooking at every meal. Tasty stuff! However, having just read a report mentioning this brand having elevated levels of lead, I cannot recommend it or purchase it any longer. It's not a huge amount, and many others are still probably comfortable with it, but we tend to be overly cautious in our family. I have purchased from this company on multiple occasions with a variety of products and always been pleased. I will be waiting to see what the company does to change their lead levels and possibly purchase from them again in the future. For now I will stick to Bob’s Red Mill, Bragg, Dr. Fuhrman, Red Star, or NOW Foods nutritional yeast.

Takes popcorn to a whole other level

I heard that nutritional yeast was good on popcorn, so I bought a large shaker bottle of Bragg's nutritional yeast to try it out. Turns out, it was great on popcorn! When I ran out, I decided to get a bulk bag of this Frontier yeast because it was more economical, and honestly, I couldn't taste a difference.

They are mini flakes, but the flakes are so mini that it's practically a powder, if that matters to you.

I use it for:
1. Popcorn. I add melted butter, sprinkle powdered seasoning salt (regular seasoning salt ground up in the blender) and this yeast. Absolutely delicious!
2. Pasta tossed with butter, nutritional yeast, and capers. Squeeze some lemon on it, sprinkle minced fresh parsley. Add grilled chicken, if you like. Tastes similar to chicken piccata, but takes a fraction of the time.

MSG Free and Vegan Friendly

O.k. so I want to put to rest some worries and concerns people have. As the previous reviewers have stated this product is produced at a lower temp and therefore has less chance of containing MSG. As far as taste goes it is awesome, it is not addicting as one would associate with a MSG laden product. And compared to Red Star it is going to taste less desirable, however it is my understanding that Red Star's parent organization is a major producer of flavor and food enhancers, so you can put two and two together and figure out why so many people pick Red Star over this. I have ordered two bags already, and i am getting ready to order a third. I know when I have eaten MSG as a vegan it readily affects my stomach and head, and this yeast has no effect on me. It tastes great and I use it in a lot of my recipes for the added b vitamins.

Being vegetarian for about half a century, I have used a lot of nutritional yeast in my life. It boosts flavor, protein and B12, among other things.
This product is typical of Frontier's approach: Quality in a protective bulk package.
My opinion of the qualities are somewhat middle of the road. Overall quality, excellent. The flakes are smaller, which is not a big deal to me. The flavor is not as "buttery-cheesy" as some I've had. Good, but not the knock-your-socks-off wonderful. Still, I've ordered it twice on here.
There seems to be some worry about MSG. I did notice one reviewer described being sensitive to MSG and said this did not affect her negatively, as MSG does. Nutritional yeast has protein, therefore almost certainly glutamates, which contrary to some claims, is NOT MSG.
I think it is important here to distinguish between natural glutamates and MonoSodium Glutamate, generally an industrial product which is produced by GMO bacteria, typically on GMO wheat and such. MSG is very concentrated and has factors related to the source materials. Natural glutamates are found in practically anything with PROTEIN. Some people lump all glutamates together with MSG. To avoid all glutamates you'd have to avoid all protein! I don't consider that practical or desirable.
Obviously I do find this nutritional yeast desirable, though possibly not quite perfect. I might order it again.

Nutritional Yeast

I have a potato and leek recipe that called for this product. I made the soup without it. It was ok. I'm not a vegan or eating strictly healthy but I love trying different foods. Out of curiosity I bought some of this yeast. (There is a web site linked with Amazon that explains this product and it's uses.) It was a filling and tasty addition to the potato and leek soup. I'll be using more of this product. Thank you Amazon you've widened my world and maybe me.

This was nothing like any Nutritional Yeast I have tried in the last 2 years. The flakes are more like a powder. This barely had the smell of Nutritional yeast. The flavor was nothing like any other nutritional yeast I have tried. It did not have that cheese flavor that I expected. It was so bad I had to return it. If you like Nutritional Yeast do not but this. Stick with Red Star or Now Foods.

No B12!

I bought this as a flavoring but mostly as a B12 supplement, as it states here that it contains B12 (and that's normal for nutritional yeast). Having received the package, there is no B12 in this product according to the nutrition facts. This is a complete waste of money for me, I can get my other B vitamins from other sources, but as I'm vegan I need to get my B12 somewhere! Barely any iron either. Don't buy this, there's no health benefits to some extra B-vitamins unless you're deficient (which, if you're vegan, you're probably not).
