"Frontiers" was Journey's follow-up monster 1981 smash "Escape" and proved to be just as commerically successful, peaking at #2(held back only by Michael Jackson's Thriller)and spawning four Top 40 hits, including "Seperate Ways(Worlds Apart)","Faithfully","After The Fall" and "Send Her My Love".The album is just as good,if not better, than its predeccesor, containing other standouts(besides the hits) like "Chain Reaction","Edge Of A Blade" and "Rubicon".The only poor song on this album is the grating "Back Talk".Luckly, this 2006 reissue contains four bonus tracks that strenghten this effort much more by including "Only The Young"(a top 10 hit from the "Vision Quest" soundtrack in 1985),"Ask The Lonely"(which was featured on the "Two Of A Kind" soundtrack in 1983)"Only Solutions"(featured on the 1982 "Tron" soundtrack)and the short but outstanding "Liberty".The remastered sound(by Dave Donnelly,NOT Dave Collins as one reviewer said)is a vast improvement over the previous CD editions, making Steve Perry's vocals,Neal Schon's guitar and Jonathan Cain's keyboard's sounding more powerful and clearer than ever before. It also includes a cool booklet containing photos and tour dates from the "Frontiers" era.Essential for any Journey fan or 80's pop/rock lovers!

After the somewhat uneven Escape, featuring new member Jonathan Cain, we arrive at Frontiers! By now, the new lineup has had one album and one tour under their belts. The songwriting, recording, and live playing have gelled, and it's time to crank out a masterpiece.

If you follow the band's progression, you find certain milestones where the band shifted into another gear, and jumped forward. The first was with the album Infinity, and Steve Perry joining the band. The next milestone was with Departure, and a solid album of great songwriting and playing. Jonathan Cain coming on board helped with the next milestone, and that is this album. Really, this starts the best and most mature recording period of the band, with the classic trio of albums: Frontiers, Raised on Radio, and Trial By Fire. These together may not contain the majority of songs typical in the greatest hits collections, but the band reached a point to where they could do great things and not have to depend of writing hits. They could move to the next level and write and play music that they really enjoyed, and we can too.

Part of what makes this album so great is that there are no weak or wimpy tracks. The surprise addition of kick-@ss rockers shows the band in a whole new light. Chain Reaction is very cool and strong, but even the more pop-oriented lead-off single Separate Ways has both pop-hooks and melody, and powerhouse production (check out those guitars and drums too!) This may be their most cohesive album, with all the songs working well together and next to each other.

Okay, if you don't have this, go ahead and click on the necessary buttons. Then, load it in the CD player, crank it up, and enjoy! Even the production and mixing have a bigger and more stadium-oriented sound, so you get a little more of a live presentation of the band (one of their highlights) over other albums. The packaging artwork is nice too.

One of the classic Journey albums! Such classic songs like, Separate Ways, Send Her My Love, and Faithfully take me back to that awesome decade known as the 80's! The little cracks and pops of white noise when playing the vinyl version of this album are just part of the fun! By the way, this particular album I bought from the seller was in such AWESOME condition that it was almost like listening to it on a CD or MP3! Clean (yet old) records still exist!!! :D

If you have the boxed set "Time", you really don't need to bother with any of the Journey reissues. All of the bonus tracks on this album as well as just about all the other reissues are already included in the boxed set. What's nice in this case is that the two tracks that wound up in the films "Two of a Kind" and "Vision Quest" ("Ask the Lonely" and "Only the Young" respectively; both of which are also on the 1988 "Greatest Hits" collection...and that too has been updated to include "When You Love a Woman" from their 1996 "Trial by Fire" disc) are reunited with the rest of the album they were originally recorded for. Kudos also for the inclusion of "Only Solutions" from the computer game flick "Tron" from 1982, and the track "Liberty". If you have the Journey catalog albums already, your best bet to get all the bonus tracks included in this 2006 round of reissues is to just get "Time" and you'll find a treasure trove of stuff that was, for whatever reason, left off the original releases. To be fair, this is a nice reworking of a great labum and it's nice to have the two big movie songs back where they always belonged.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME. Steve Perry with Jonathan Cain writing most of the songs made the album more credible than their previous work. Faithfully is by far my favorite song of all time. I can listen to it and I just fall apart and cry because Steve Perry sings it with such feeling you can feel the passion pouring out of him. Separate Ways, Send Her My Love, After the Fall, Troubled Child, Edge of the Blade and Rubicon are all my new favorites on this album. I love the bonus tracks especially Only the Young and Ask the Lonely. Steve Perry gives new meaning to the phrase LEGEND. That's what he is with this album and his other album either solo or with Journey. He will be remembered that way forever with future generations to come. Journey without him is just another band but with him it is legendary.
