From the manufacturer
When Only the Best Will Do
“Making Grown Men Cry Since 1975”, SABRE Security Equipment Corporation is proud to manufacture the world’s number one selling pepper sprays: SABRE & SABRE Red. The #1 brand chosen by both law enforcement agencies and consumers, SABRE backs the most effective pepper spray with education and training to maximize personal safety.
“When Only The Best Will Do”, SABRE offers Frontiersman Bear Spray for those who venture into bear country. Following EPA guidelines, Frontiersman contains the industry’s strongest formula (2.0% Major Capsaicinoids) and manufactures the only 9.2 ounce canister to fire up to 35 feet away – that’s up to 20 feet further than other bear sprays. Since bears can cover over at least 30 feet per second, carrying Frontiersman within the very accessible hip holsters gives you a big advantage against an 800-pound charging animal.
Frontiersman was field tested and repeatedly proven effective at deterring charging bears by both the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Elmendorf, Alaska and Brown Bear Resources in Missoula, Montana. Frontiersman Bear Spray is effective against Black, Brown, and Polar bears.
Maximum Range - 35 Feet!
At 35 feet, Frontiersman’s 9.2 oz canisters fire up to twenty (20) feet further than the other bear sprays. This is a huge advantage considering charging bears can cover over 30 feet per second!
Belt Holster Included for Immediate Access
Our unique holsters allow immediate access to the firing mechanism, enabling one to fire the canister from their hip. The snug holster protects the canister without the use of any cumbersome straps allowing the user to withdraw the unit from the holster in one fluid motion. Immediate deployment is vital! One
has very limited time to react when an 800-pound bear charges at 30 feet per second.
This is the number one reason why you should protect yourself and your family with Frontiersman Bear Spray when enjoying the great outdoors! According to a study by the University of Utah, pepper spray will fail 30% due to weak batches. 30% failures can result in serious injury. SABRE is the only brand which eliminates these failures due to weak batches by operating an exclusive in-house HPLC laboratory. SABRE products are also supported by the prestigious ISO 9001:2008 Certification as an added means of guaranteeing the highest production quality.
Officers on six continents and in more than 40 countries carry SABRE pepper spray. SABRE is the exclusive choice of the New York Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the US Customs & Border Protection, and many others.

If you have this product you will need to secure the top to the container with lots of tape or some other way.
I am surprised how cheaply and flimsy this was secured with only a thin strip of plastic holding it in place. No, you cannot get your money refunded for this type of product no matter how defective.
The maximum concentration of all capsaicinoid-based repellent is regulated by law at 2%. If you look around at all the different anti-bear brands, they have the same 7.9 or 9.2 oz capacity, the same 2% concentration, they all shoot 35 feet and dumps in 5 seconds, the canisters and spray heads look the same, and only the brand names and prices are different. I conjecture they're all built by the same manufacturer who labels them differently so the least expensive brand should work as well as the most expensive one.
I have both the 7.9 and 9.2 oz models of this brand. The canisters have the same diameters and either canister fits in either holster. The 9.2 oz canister is about 1/2 inch taller than the 7.9 oz one -- this is the only difference between them that I can see. Both trigger guards are white plastic that glow green in the dark, at least for a while. I may update this review after I test fire the expired 7.9 oz canister after I find a suitable location.
A more important criterion in choosing bear spray is how you intend to carry it, i.e., what kind of holster it comes with. I chose this chest holster because I'm hiking in the sticks with mountain lions around. Saw one face-to-face at 80 yards, I looked at it, it looked at me and exited stage left, I guess it already had lunch. Cats are ambush predators, I figure I have maybe 3 seconds tops to respond so quick deployment is important for me. Also, my last holster was attached to my pack's shoulder strap so when I dropped my pack and walked around as I sometimes do over lunch, I was without protection. This chest holster keeps the canister on my body at all times.
The 8-step Chest Holster Directions it comes with was written by a non-native English speaker. The most useful thing on the Directions is the image of a person wearing the holster, the rest is unintelligible. The horizontal strap has 2 adjustment points and a quick-release buckle. The vertical strap has 1 adjustment point. Vertical adjustment is simple, horizontal adjustment is trickier. The adjustments on the horizontal strap control chest tightness and the final position of the buckle on your chest. Final buckle position is important because the buckle helps to maintain the bottom of the holster slightly off to one side of the chest while the canister angles upwards towards the opposite shoulder as shown in the image. When correctly positioned, the buckle is located at the very bottom of and immediately below the angled canister. I hope this makes sense (it will when you buy this spray and see the image).
There is a plastic triangle that joins horizontal and vertical straps in the back. The permanently-joined horizontal straps at the triangle have short heat-fused ends that may irritate your skin if they face your back. I ended up taking the whole strap system apart and reassembling it so these sharp ends don't face my back.
The canister and strap system does not interfere with my pack's straps. The canister sits just below the pack's horizontal chest strap and there is no interference with the pack's shoulder strap when the canister is pulled out.
It helps if a second person is available when adjusting straps for the first time to get everything just right. Once the straps are adjusted, you simply release the buckle and the whole thing comes off your body. Easy to put on and remove. Feels a bit weird to wear initially but you get used to it. Debit 1 star for poor instructions, I gave it 4 stars.
Please note that the Product Details says the manufacturer is discontinuing this product. Don't know if this is in error but it didn't stop me from buying this brand -- this particular brand might be going away but it's the same stuff as in every other bear spray out there, no worries.
