This story focuses on Alexa and Daniel. Both have recently gotten out of relationships, especially Daniel. Daniel is a decent guy, with a good head on his shoulders, money, good looks, and more. Alexa is an Alaska-born girl with a love of food, good cooking skills, some independence, and somewhat lacking in the good decisions department. This story has a VERY serious case of instalove happening, in less than a week, and it was hard to see/get past. I understand wanting to have a one night stand, and wanting to prove to yourself that you're desirable, but my first impressions of Alexa weren't very positive with that decision of hers toward Daniel, and I felt that that was just the first of many bad decisions made, some more stupid than others. Both fell so fast that it was hard to keep up. Of course, given how cooped up they were, and how much hot chemistry and sexy times they had, I'm not terribly surprised.
Overall I thought the story was ok. Both main characters are human, easy to relate to, but I couldn't like Alexa much because of her sometimes self-centered or stupid decisions. And there was a lot of that. There was a lot of being together, being so happy, then something happens, and Alexa is mad for some odd reason that I can't explain, and she goes off and does something she should not. So much whiplash, with little explanation why. And Daniel can't stand the thought of her leaving, despite only knowing her 3 or 4 days max. I was so confused by him wanting her, and by her for why she acted as she did, especially as someone familiar with the cold of Alaska. What was good about this story, you ask? The scorching moments between them were pretty great, as were the descriptions of food. They made me hungry. The was Alaska was described also made me feel like I was there, experiencing it. But, sadly, the large amount of bad decisions and angst that followed wherever Alexa went did not allow me to enjoy this story. The writing and editing was decent, but the pacing was a little jumpy for my liking, which didn't help. Sometimes the timeline for Alexa confused me, as did how things were ended. That ending did not give me warm fuzzies. If you like stories about Alaska or with a lot of angst, then I think you'll enjoy this. Otherwise, I think you should pass. But you can always try it for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Quill and Ink reviews. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Alexa, the sexy redhead, is finally free of her nightmarish man and needs an escape. So does Daniel. ....they meet....they connect......HOTNESS happens
I loved this book and the characters.
Storyline is terrific, characters are terrific, the chemistry between our two main players is very very hot.
Daniel a wealthy business man, comes back from a trip to find his girlfriend in bed with another guy, so he tells her it's done and over. The guy just stands there with a smirk on his face.
Then we meet Alexa, beautiful blue eyed redhead, who was up until a short while ago married to Sean, a guy she loved and who she thought loved her. He quickly shows his true self, confessing he's having an affair, that he never wanted to be with her, he only wanted to get in her pants. He becomes aggressive and abusive and kicks her out.
Her brother suggests she apply for the housekeeping job with Daniel, they meet sparks fly, the air is electric. And they find they have something huge in common, Sean.....
if ever there was a character you truely wanted to maim, Sean is it. Seriously a horrid man, and well written. There are quite a few steamy sex scenes, and the story twists and turns. You don't want the story to end. Love Love Love it.
I want to point out that I received a copy of this book before the final edit so my copy had more errors than the final version. I will need to re-read to see how the newer version is.
I enjoyed the characters and the storyline was good. I liked how things played out and that the characters finally get smart and admit how they really feel.
Being an Alaskan, I do have a problem with the incorrect route that they would have taken when they were trying to beat the storm to the house. There is no reason they would have stopped in Glennallen on the way since that would be twice the time it would take if they went on the Parks Hwy and stopped in Talkeetna for lunch. That part just bugged me, but that is because I know those roads well.
Asides from the issues with my copy and the incorrect route, the book was good.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review!
This book got me hooked right from the beginning. You learn that life is huge of twist and turns, but you need to overcome them...sometimes with the help of another person. The chemistry between the two main characters is amazing.
I received this book as an ARC for my honest review.
