Lots of Beauty, Lots of Love, Lots of White Magic...Typical Disney Movie
on April 16, 2014
I wasn't raised watching the Disney movies as a child. It has been that as an adult I was introduced to them; I mistakenly thought that my kids should be familiar with them. I still haven't watched several of the Disney animated classics...and I could live without doing so. I would rather read the books if I had to expose them to the stories. So, I have only become familiar with them as perhaps an overly analytical parent who is careful about what her children watch. This movie has a PG rating...that is appropriate.
Though there are lots of good qualities in this movie, this will not be a regular for my family. (Small children will like it. Probably ages 2-6 especially...even older ones will not mind watching.) I don't base my rating on popularity among the crowds, but the overall content as I see it.
The strongest message was very biblical: "perfect love casts out fear".
The obvious evil in this movie are those who pretend to be something that they are not.
I saw that fear can be evil, destructive and contagious. I also saw true love is healing, merciful, edifying, just, and contagious as well. True love isn't always a romantic love either.
Lots of good in this movie. I wish someone would think of other stories to bring us with good values and messages, minus the witch (even if a good one--is that an oxymoron?), a spell, magic, trolls, a curse, etc.
This movie reminds me a little of the story (not movie) of Beauty and the Beast but still quite different because of the twists. If you liked Beauty and the Beast, you will like this movie.
There, I think I gave a fair, honest opinion/review without giving out the whole story.
I was drawn to read this story because of a review I read from a reliable source. A story about "Redeemption" is what I understood it to be ...I was ready for something like that to come from Disney, so I was eager to watch it and I read reviews before hand...I had no idea that there was any magic from the reviews...I probably would not have bought it if I had known.
So I hope this helps someone out one way or another to be informed.
By the way, at the end of the movie, it is noted that the story is based on Andersen's The Snow Queen...a work that I was not familiar with.
