The recipes include interesting dishes such as Penne with Roasted Tomatoes,Chicken, and Mushrooms; Steak and Chimichurri Toasts; Roast Chicken-Chipotle Nachos with Cilantro-Avocado Crema, as well as the favorites Potato Salad; Egg, Cheese, and Sausage Strata, Fruit Salad etc. Almost 100 pages of recipes in all including many vegetarian options. The book also explains how to make a Potluck event work, and/or how to supplement with purchased "To Go" items.
For those planning a Wedding there is a section on FAQ with everything from how to cut a wedding cake and whether to rent or purchase glassware, to what decorations not to put on the tables! An additional section on the Reception features sample Schedules (how long DOES it take to get everyone through the buffet line?) and even Diagrams for how to attractively arrange your buffet!
All in all, a great book for creating a classy, budget-friendly reception!!
PRO: The FAQ chapter has the most useful information for the novice. This is the sort of information you won't find on the internet. Reading this section is like having a conversation with a caterer. When you are done you can envision just how to put it all together. The Recipe Selection chapter is great because it includes recipes for brunch, lunch and dinner. One feature I really liked: every recipe tells you how far in advance you can make it. The Bar Guide is useful; without it I'm sure I would have bought too much champagne and not enough wine. In addition, the following sections were useful to me: Purchasing Tips, The Prep Schedule, The Master Equipment List and Buffet Set-up Guidelines.
CON: There are no photos in this book. I would have particularly liked to see photos of the meals or buffet examples. She gives two illustrations of the buffet set up. While it gets the information across they are not very inspiring.
