Love love love this book! If you have any interest in fruit, cultivation, agriculture, how and what gets to our tables and supermarkets, and even the politics of it all, you will love this book! I am a private grower/fruit nut and the details of fruit taste and characteristics through cultivars and selection is enough to have me constantly going back to this book to reread and cite pages to friends and possible purchasers of this book. Lemon meringue tasting custard apples (annona), crayon tasting apples (Weird), a fruit almost extinct in the Seychelles that resembles a womans torso! Sorry I am giving away too much! But these details among many others are what have me continually enjoying this book after the first read! Buy it for sure! And better yet, check out the documentary under the same name which will give you a tiny taste of whats in the book! Enjoy!

Sometime the movie is better than the book...

I bought this book after watching the engaging documentary movie; I found this source material to be disappointing. The author should maybe try fiction, since in science narrative writing you actually need to check your references and confirm your facts. I could not shake the feeling that this was written by someone for money, not out of passion (or knowledge) of the subject matter. Hard pass on Mr. Gollner from now on, and I will not suggest this one to my friends. (But the Documentary is Excellent!)

Hysterically Funny, Educational & Remarkably Readable

Laugh-your-ass-off funny and so educational. Education should all be like this. Author Gollner is one of the most gifted writers around, and this book is a must-read for EVERYONE. I have been telling everyone I know about this book. Some of the stories are so sensational that, when I tell them to my friends, they laugh hysterically, act embarrassed, or simply deny belief. I wish there was a sixth possible star for exceptional. He deserves it.

The author creates a lot of entertainment with his many adventures into the world of fruit hunters and the many unusual characters he runs into and deals with are quite amusing. lots of good information here and over all just fun book.

this story is written with so much description that i can almost taste the exotic fruits! it really is amazing to me that there are hundreds of thousands of fruits, of which around 10,000 are edible and sadly, only a dozen are readily available in our super marts. excellent reading, and thought provoking. do yourself a favor and read this one.
