Great Kubrick film and a little improved image quality from previous blu-ray. But top and bottom of screen are still cropped as to compare to full screen version.

I had to get my wife to watch it to see what I was always referring to when I joke sometimes! Absolute classic that defines countless characters due to the master Sargent Gunnie, he rocked it!
"This is a classic and still hard to watch. I honestly know the first half by heart... and prob only gave the second half two looks in the past. A must see for any real military film addict!

I spent two tours in Viet Nam with the Maries in 1965 -1966 and again in 1969-1970. Full metal jacket was the best Marine film and They were soldiers was the best Army Movie distributed not forgetting Hamburger Hill. . Full Metal Jacket took you from a civilian to coming home afterwards. Still waiting for one that deals with all the different ghosts correctly for the survivors.> The few that have tried make us look like a bunch of crazies.

This is a classic. R Lee Ermey's portrayal of the DI was what many see as the stereotypical DI. Sure there is a bit of thought indoctrination in all basic training that changes the way recruits think. There has to be or they will never be able to react as needed under fire. Pvt. Pile though well, just one of the sad failures.

Amazing cinematography, good choice of cast. As with most of his movies, Kubrick tells the tale his own way and doesn't worry too much about historical accuracy. Several of my friends who have gone through Army, Air Force, and Marine recruit training scoff at some of the technical details in the first part of the movie - but they all agree that the movie is powerful and evocative. If you are a fan of Kubrick's, you will find much to appreciate (though maybe not enjoy!) If you are looking for another "Platoon", maybe not so much.

Please describe the audio and video quality of any Blu-Ray you review. Thanks to those who do this.

The picture was 1.85:1 (or something close to that), and completely filled my widescreen LCD. I would rather of had 2.40:1.

Video quality was very good to great. I only saw grain on one scene. I give it a 9.0 out of 10. Very good for a movie this old.

Audio quality was disappointing. It was only Dolby Digital 5.1, and there were hardly any surround sounds, if any. The sound came from the fronts and center. I don't recall any sub-woofer bass, but I could be mistaken on that.

Overall, a good Blu-Ray purchase.

Damn good movie. Sometimes I just watch until the Boot Camp segment is over.
