Editorial Reviews

Kaname Chidori’s one of the most popular girls at her high school – unfortunately, it’s her growing popularity off campus she should be worrying about. Unbeknownst to Kaname, terrorists are plotting her abduction, believing she possesses the rare and coveted abilities of “the Whispered.”

That’s where Sousuke Sagara enters the picture. He’s a hotshot soldier from the clandestine counter-terrorist organization known as Mithril – and he’s going undercover at Kaname’s school to try and keep her safe. He may be an ace in the cockpit of an Arm Slave mech, but there’s no training in the world that could prepare him for the warzone of high school.

If you are an avid anime fan and enjoy action/drama/comedy series then this is for you! Though it is now several years old, the series is still in my top 10 or 20 of all time. The balance of drama, action, and comedy is well done and the characters are genuinely likable.

Other reviews and the synopsis cover the plot and events pretty well, but if you are a fan of military style anime with some fan service thrown in then definitely pick this up.

I recommend watching with the Japanese dialogue and English subtitles. Souske's Japanese voice is PERFECT! I also recommend a 13+ age for viewing as a lot of the humor is slightly 'flirty' in nature and young audiences won't get a lot of the humor.

This anime is great for those people who enjoy a mech anime with a side of comedy. This is fish out water story where mercenary Sousuke who is 16-17 years old has to join a school in Tokyo to watch over a girl named Kaname because of her "whispered" abilities. From there a good action and comedy story takes place. This season is more on the action side which doesn't take away from the fact that it is a great show.

If you are into the comedic aspects then watching or purchasing Full Metal Panic!? Fumoffu is for you, not much action in that series.

The animation is great for having been produced in 2002, especially compared to shows being produced at the time With that let me discuss the reason for the title above, while the english dub sounds good and no actor is bad, I personally felt that Sousuke's personality and the fact that he is oblivious to everything he is doing wrong is lost with the english dub. Even with the Japanese audio being in stereo I would say stick with that, but if you dislike reading subtitles then the english audio is perfectly fine.

I really enjoy when a show or anime can blend together multiple genres and make a successful final product, the only genre that ends up lacking a little bit is the romance but that is a result of the characters personalities and interactions aka Sousuke is again oblivious to everything not military related.

Full Metal Panic is a good action anime and to many is a classic. The characters are distinct and the story is oddly enough pretty good despite it's genericness. Even I have to admit it's an enjoyable show to watch even though i don't really like these mecha animes.

I didn't know much about Full Metal Panic! before buying the series on blu-ray. I got it because I heard it was pretty good and the price was really good for a full 26 episode show. FMP is a show that hits a lot of genres and themes, going back and forth from rather dark military fiction to wacky school hijinks to pretty soft sci-fi to action-thrillers. It may make it sound like the series is unfocused and disjointed, but it surprisingly fits rather well together. It does, however, play merry hell with the pacing, which is rather uneven all the way through aside from various 2-3 episode story arcs that fit into the season. The video and audio quality are top notch and don't look/sound like a slightly upgraded DVD. The special features are a bit lackluster, but the bar for anime extra features is so low that they don't really seem that bad.

An important thing to note is that although this is described as "The Complete Series", Full Metal Panic! is actually 3 different series and this item only has the first one. The second and third (Fumoffu? and Second Raid respectively) are not included with this set. It's not a deliberately misleading thing, but if you were buying this and expecting all of the Full Metal Panic anime, you're going to be disappointed. Aside from that potential problem, it's a really fun series at a really reasonable price point and I definitely recommend it.

FMP is the story of Kaname and the Mercenary Sousuke. Kaname is a high school student that holds the key to black technology. An advanced form of technology used in military applications. Sousuke is a mercenary assigned to guard her. The problem is that he has been fighting battles since he was a young boy, and he has no common sense or social skills. He is always causing trouble for her, but he's the best candidate to keep her safe. The story follows their adventures from their high school all the way to the battlefield and back again.

I bought this series one DVD at a time when it was new. I just got my hands on the new Blu-ray relesae. FMP was great looking in standard definition, but the HD is amazing. There are a lot of animes where the Blu-ray isn't all that much better, but FMP is a great improvement.

FMP has everything you could want out of an anime series. Action, comedy, drama, sci-fi, and a bit of romance. It also stars the best voice actors in the business. I have always loved this series and I hope you do too.

In order to fight the growing threat of terrorism a paramilitary counter terrorism group known as the Mithril organization is established. In addition to combating and obliterating terrorist groups the Mithril organization also takes a keen interest in protecting people known as the whispered. The whispered are mysteriously born possessing knowledge of highly advanced technology and weaponry. As a result the whispered are being targeted by nefarious individuals and groups who wish to obtain this knowledge to serve their own agendas.

When the Mithril organization learns that an unsuspecting high school girl is being targeted they send one of their top guys to protect her there is only one problem... the man they've chosen may have a brilliant military mind, but he is completely socially inept. The series blends comedy, drama and action together with expert precision transitioning from comedy hijinks to dramatic dilemmas that culminate in amazing action sequences.

The animation is top notch, the characters are intriguing, the story is both hilarious and compelling with an excellent English dub making this series a must own for any anime fan and one of my favorite mecha animes!
