My curiosity for Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Magical Romance :) led me to this very honest review. Bare with me. I haven't read that much Urban Fantasy but the setting appealed to me,
an interesting premise. I was very curious.
First, it was funny to listen to a male narrator tell a story through the perspective of a female lead character. The first chapters kept my attention, I liked the interaction in the book.
The way the characters were described along with the story line, was satisfying and kept me engaged.
Although I had some questions...
How the hell the dumbest Witch learns the best spells? Lucky girl!
Fantasy, right? Really! :)
How was she not suspicious?
Was it so easy to believe that Lawyer?
So many warnings... (I'm shaking my head :) ...)
At the beginning Kathy had questions but after some blurry visions, powerful spells, adding her sad dull life to the mix, she gets completely deeply involved. Magic!
I don't think she would last long with all those attacks without Will's help, spell, whatever that was, but very lucky Witch indeed!
I was very apprehensive with Will, something was wrong.
Another question... Freeze and tele(trans)porting would solve many issues if you remember you have powerful magic... they were struggling with money, Mind and Time magic would do the trick.
Seemed a little childish at times but well, who doesn't want to be a kid again?
Then two sisters break their relationship because of a Dark Knight... bad boy, Will...
Someone they don't know at all and sisters, Sisters! Know each other since they were born, same blood, lots of love, family? Besides they are Witches! Huh I didn't feel the warmth... maybe because they were magical and were hiding from the "normal"... but where was the emotion, the feelings?
By now it seems the story goes full speed, however I like the way the action and the different scenarios blend.
Until everybody wants to kill everybody :)
And no ones goes to work anymore :)
It was fun! I've enjoyed this read, I think it will keep evolving!
Thank you David!
Wow, this was nothing like I thought it would be. I looked at the cover and thought it would be just another paranormal romance book. Boy was I ever wrong. First off, I want to say, I think the narrator did a good job. The way he did Kathy's voice cracked me up. It was like nails being scraped down a chalk board. lol. There is a romance story to this but, unlike most paranormal romance these days, this was eerie. And scary! at one time, when there was a scary scene, I couldn't help but also cracked up because of what he called the demon in the scene. he had a sword for an arm so he was referred to as Sword Arm. I think that's what it was. Any way, you will love this. I can't wait to listen to the next one. I was feeling sorry for Will by the end of this one. I do have to say that Samantha was a pain in the butt! I know she had a motherly role to Kathy but come on, they're grown now! No wonder Kathy took off with Will. I would too. She was so controlled by Samantha so I think she had a connection with Will because he was also controlling. I was wanting Samantha to die at times. But Kathy was also annoying some. And after what happened to Samantha, I felt bad. Can't spoil it. Sorry. I kind of liked Will in a bad boy kind of way. I think he believes there's no hope because he was born evil but I know he really loves Kathy. I'm not sure how it will work with them now. This was brilliant, David!
This was a fun and action packed story although I was sad at one part of it.
This is a prequel so the story arc is going to get even more involved and make the books impossible to put down.

I had a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I DEFINITELY want to read more and see what happens further along to all of them. But I also kind of don't.
Samantha reminds me of all my friends and family during the time I was with my living nightmare and Kathy reminds me of me during that time. Only there was no witchcraft of any sort involved in it. Though there was cult like religion which could be seen as the same.
The story itself was good. The characters were real and relatable (at least to me and my experiences). Which is definitely not a thing I can say is a regular occurrence especially when it involves books that trigger me. I own both audio book and the kindle book and definitely enjoyed the reader for the audio book. And would definitely recommend picking this up in either or both formats.
Although I see a lot of unfavorable reviews on this story, I really liked it. The novel was well balanced between action and dialogue and had wonderful description which i find SUPER important in any fantasy novel.
It's a great story about two very different witches/sisters with a whole lot of action, decisions and one heck of a bad guy.
The only thing i could say i don't really like was how the story ended. I believe a few different choices could have been made with Kathy and Samantha's fate, but then, in life, bad things DO happen. And that's what makes us who we are.
Ultimately, the story world is immersive and sets up the perfect stage for the next novel in the series, a novel i'll be looking forward to reading.
