Doesn’t it seem that the more we seek happiness, the more elusive it becomes?
There is an easy fix: fun is an action you can take here and now, practically anywhere, anytime. Through research and science, we know fun is enormously beneficial to our physical and psychological well-being, yet fun’s absence from our modern lives is striking. Whether you’re a frustrated high-achiever trying to find a better work-life balance or someone who is seeking relief from life’s overwhelming challenges, it is time you gain access to the best medicine available.
“A masterful distillation of science and personal experience” (Nir Eyal, author of Hooked), The Fun Habit explains how you can build having fun into an actionable and effortless habit and why doing so will help you become a healthier, more joyful, more productive person. In the vein of Year of Yes, 10% Happier, and Atomic Habits, The Fun Habit features “practical tips, tools, and tactics for bringing fun into our lives starting now” (Dr. Olav Sorenson, UCLA professor of sociology).

Editorial Reviews
Review
"A masterful distillation of science and personal experience, The Fun Habit uncovers the amazing power we have to improve our present state and shows how fun is the key to an enjoyable and fulfilling life. Readers looking for actionable science-based strategies, rather than pie-in-the-sky promises, will love this book." -- Nir Eyal, bestselling author of Hooked and Indistractable
"A breath of fresh air for those who want more joy and wonder in their lives! Michael artfully bridges science and storytelling to reveal best practices for enhancing our quality of life. The Fun Habit is foundational for anyone who wants to improve performance, enhance relationships, and have greater social impact." -- Dr. Michael Gervais, high performance psychologist; founder of Finding Mastery, Inc.
"The Fun Habit sounds like an oxymoron. Isn’t fun spontaneous? Often. But we can also put ourselves in places and positions that are conducive to having fun. We can be intentional about fun—and we should be. Mike Rucker distills decades of life experience and academic research into practical tips, tools, and tactics for bringing fun into our lives starting now." -- Dr. Olav Sorenson, Joseph Jacobs Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies, Professor of Strategy and of Sociology, and Faculty Director of the Price Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA
“Psychologist and fun lover Mike Rucker has written an enjoyable treatise on the art of bringing more play and joy to life.” -- Shelf Awareness
"This cheerful debut trumpeting the importance of joy…is a fittingly entertaining guide." -- Publishers Weekly
“Far from being just a feel-good exhortation or collection of fun activities to embark upon, this title brings an in-depth, science-backed exploration of happiness, through the lens of having fun.” -- Library Journal
“With expertise and a personal, intimate understanding of the subject matter, Rucker backs up his suggestions with scientific research regarding happiness, fun and, most interestingly, how our brains interpret stimuli. This well-researched and impressive guide to finding more meaning in your day-to-day life will offer readers endless rewards.” -- BookPage

I love how the book is laid out… Concepts like the play model and the fun file are simple to understand, recall, and incorporate… The mix of research and personal stories… Sections on friendship, family, children, work, goals… The pop culture references and the comedian quotes at the beginning of each chapter… all made it an enjoyable read.
The book balances personal stories the author lived while providing evidence on how to overcome challenges to reach the “fun” balance and move forward.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book and it’s highly recommended. Congrats Mike

Very distracting, hard to read. I'm going to hold off on getting this book based on quality issues alone.
Fun is generally absent from the lives of most adults, and there are many reasons for this. Generally speaking, fun is perceived as something immature, something reserved for the youngest among us and not for adults. For other adults, there is simply not enough time to have fun because work and parenting obligations consume too much of our day. The Fun Habit proclaims these excuses as just that; lame reasons to avoid the fun that you, as a grown adult, so richly deserve.
I read this book to gain insights into how to better integrate fun into my daily life. I must say, I am already a few steps ahead of most adults, as I often attend concerts, sporting events, and festivals when I can, sometimes spontaneously. These are activities that I find fun, and I try to find time in my schedule for each of them. Still, even with my present tendency to accept and seek out fun, much of my life is still far too serious and much oto geared toward fulfilling obligations. Reading The Fun Habit has introduced me to new and better ways to add even more fun to my life and make it a permanent routine, an important part of everyday living.
What I like about this book is that it presents a balanced approach to its advocation of a life of fun. It does offer several anecdotes and tells stories about people who elevated their own existence when they added more fun to their day. But it also offers scientific evidence that backs the notion that having more fun will make your life better. You will be happier, healthier, and generally more satisfied when you have more fun and there are countless studies that backs this up.
Adults spend so much of their time working a job, taking care of kids, and making sure that responsibilities are fulfilled. We all need more fun in our lives and The Fun Habit is ready to make that goal a reality. It’s a useful guide to doing things more frequently that bring a smile to your face, and it’s a book I recommend.

In this book, author Mike Rucker is all set to make you realize why making fun a daily habit is going to change your life for the good. Armed with scientific evidence and personal experiences, Mike takes you through a step-by-step guide on how fun can be inculcated in each and every walk of your life (personal, professional, social), bringing positive changes to it.
Honestly, I am really impressed by the amount of research done by the author on this subject and how he has applied the principles in his life and shared the experience in the book. As it happens with most of the books on habits, there were some principles that I would like to try and then there were others that I am not very sure about. But I feel like if I have to have an overall view, then I would say this book was enlightening.
However, I have a suggestion for you. If you want to read this book, go for the audiobook. I started with the e-book version but had to switch to audiobook because this book is a lengthy one and you have to have patience to read and grasp it fully.
All in all, I would recommend this book to you if you are a non-fiction lover and want to know more about how you can make fun a daily habit in your life.
