This book has sparked a new passion at our program - seeing how much we can interest the children in learning through fun. The activities are very exciting and have helped our staff come up with many new ideas. It's true, you can have fun while teaching and learning. Our favorite activity is the Haiku Straw Paintings. They are displayed for all to enjoy and the children show them to everyone entering the site.

It's a great book for semi-academic out-of-school programs. Not entirely sure it will serve our purposes as is (we have over 3000 students and 285 staff members after school)- but will most definitely act as strong foundation on which to build conversations around literacy. I, personally, would use it for tutoring small groups of children, in a different context, however. The separation of activities by level is especially helpful.Thanks

The great thing is that the setup was fairly easy and the children were able to learn and retain what they learned according to the results of the tests that were administered. However, I would have been happier if we were able to get a cheaper price on this item, because the quality of the product did not quite warrent the price.
