The Fundraising Rules by Mark Davis is the finest book I have ever seen on this subject. I hope that it will become the textbook for fundraising in our leading institutions of higher learning. It should be on every reading list before any attempt to raise funds is made by any start up.

"The Fundraising Rules" is a must read for any start-up hoping to raise VC dollars. Founders/CEO's of start-ups are expected to know everything; you need to understand tech, you need to understand marketing, you need to understand customer acquisition, you need to understand leadership, etc. For most of these topics there are already a multitude of books and resources. Up until now, there were no introductory books on how venture fundraising works from start to finish. In "The Fundraising Rules," Mark outlines this process concisely and provides "insider" insight into how VC's think about deals. We will make this book required reading for the start-ups that we work with.

It is a very clear and articulated guide. Mark Davis has played all roles in the VC space and has delivered a critical clear "how to manual" for anyone wanting to fundraise to fulfill his/her entrepreneurial venture. The book provides to the point insights and recommendations for each step along the way: from fundraising strategy to closing the deal and controlling it. It provides, as well, some psychological relief as things can get tough out there. It does fill a gap. I will be recommending it to all Italian entrepreneurs approaching this segment.

Great new book! I'm a fourth generation entrepreneur. I've also raised millions for 501(c)3 non-profit organizations. I love how Mark brings those two worlds together to offer amazing epiphanies for today's movers and shakers...

I've never read a better book on fundraising for a startup or high-stage company. This is a must read for every entrepreneur that is running a scalable business that one day might want funding. I run an accelerator and have made 70 investments in the last two years alone - it's now mandatory reading for all my entrepreneurs that want us to help them raise capital. If there was one thing I wish he did was emphasize how his methodology works for angel group raises, and not just Venture Capitalist. The book is mostly centered around VC raises - but the truth is that angel groups are starting to increase the sophistication and stage of business for which they invest. That means their processes and deal structure look very similar to what a $1M dollar VC investor a couple of years would have done. The book's methodology might be a little sophisticated for the "rich uncle" that wants to invest $100K, but would work for a band of angels. This wouldn't be true a couple years ago, but would today. In reflection, this book is even more helpful, to more people, than it even gives itself credit for. Either way, great book. Loved it and looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is the first book you should pick up if you're looking to raise money, whether it's your first go-around or you have some experience. Mark covers the process chronologically which seems obvious but is rarely done. Fundraising is about relationships and continual conversations. Marks clearly explains how to tell a cohesive story for your investors.

For years, the process of raising money for a startup has been a closely guarded secret accessible only to a select group of insiders. Thanks to Mark and his book "The Fundraising Rules", the veil of secrecy has been lifted and the playing field has been leveled.

If you're interested in raising money, the very first thing you should do is buy this book and get the inside track from someone who has actually sat on both sides of the table.

One of the most practical books I found to help an entrepreneur prepare to fund raise. Hopefully next edition will take into account late breaking funding platforms such as angellist and fundme. I highly recommend the book.
