If you are death friendly and knowledgeable, this is NOT the book for you. Kathy makes fun of cultural differences, shows major lack of research in her historic accounts, and is generally put off by the idea of death and the different ways people across the globe choose to celebrate it. The entire read just made me annoyed and angry at the sloppy research and the "humor" that can only be funny to people who are afraid of death and culture. Terrible read!

Interesting book about Funeral Directors Adventures. A bit dry and not as good as I hoped.

I found out about this book after being linked to it at the end of one of Kathy Benjamin's many humorous articles at Cracked.com. Gallows humor is something I enjoy, and this book has plenty of it, and more.
Similar to Cracked articles, the facts are true, but presented in a funny way that is sure to get a laugh out of even the most squeamish reader.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

People are strange, and have always been, with weird habits, practices and proclivities. Even more so regarding something as mentally and emotionally fraught as death. With wit and insight, Ms Benjamin highlights some of the stranger stories and cultural practices surrounding death. Her engaging and entertaining voice keeps you reading story after story, from gravediggers stealing clothes from the fashionable dead to a future where we Skype Grandma's funeral (sorry Grandma). Funerals to Die For is a sharp, funny read about the dead, death, and dying. A very funny book from a very smart, funny woman.

Witty, hilarious, fun! You'll be the king or queen of death/funeral trivia, with something quirky to add at every party. I work in the industry, and I must say I heartily enjoyed this one. Indeed, it injects some serious fun into funeral...

A book with some interesting information, but I think certain things in the book would have benefited from pictures, as I spent a lot of time googling things to get a better idea. Even black and white pictures would have added subtantially to the level of knowledge I gained from the book.

It was informative and hilarious in places. If we thought other cultures were strange what do they think of ours?
A most enjoyable insight into other cultures.
