Ya know, funky is as funky does and Funkytown is full funkalicious. Funk your funk with a funk funker funk funks. When that is done you can funk the funk outta that funky funk. So, in a nutshell: you gotta make a move to a town that right for you? Quit talkin' about it and go to Funkytown! It will do your sad ass some good, for funk's sake!

I was in a grocery store the other day and heard some funked down modern version of this song. OMG is was SO awful. They took all the funk out of Funkytown. This original version is so awesome... MUST be heard with headphones...er... gee did I age myself there... I mean, earphones/earbuds.. LoL This song kicks.

I'd place this song on the same level as a lot of songs that are just plain corny and very catchy. Despite this, it's incredibly difficult to listen and not lighten up in mood if you're not having a great day. I have trouble taking anything serious while listening to this, it just adds a dimension of humor to anything. Think of the wonderful uses of this song - as a ring tone, a song to blast loudly from your car at an intersection, a song for your morning commute on Mondays, you name it. It's not as annoying as the safety dance, but like it, incredibly catchy. Thank you Lipps Inc.!

I got this earworm in my head and figured the best way to get rid of it was to saturate my brain with the real thing, so I bought the MP3 file. I love the song and this recording is first rate. Must be the album version or a mix, though, because it's over seven minutes long. I have some difficult writing to do and this music keeps me going. Recommend.

The first time I heard this song, it was the theme music of an artistically GREAT commercial for Areva, a uranium mining company. Then, I heard it in Shrek 2. Where was I in 1980 when it came out? Apparently I was too young to go to the dance clubs. Fun dance/workout music!

It's the place where a generation wanted to be: it had dancing, skating, and all around good times for as long you were there. When you're a little down and out, this song helps take those stressful cares away for a while, so you can enjoy the wonderful place called "Funkytown".

This appears to be the original full "album" version that I remember from dance clubs back in the 80s. It is considerably longer than the "single" version that was used on the Shrek soundtrack and elsewhere.

The bit rate is a fixed 256 kbps (according to iTunes) and sounds pretty good. At $0.99 it's a bargain compared to standard iTunes store downloads which are now $1.29. At least iTunes has now increased their bit rate to 256 kbps across the board.

Lipps, Inc. had a hit with this in 1980, and it pops up in movies every so often. Hal (Malcolm's father) on "Malcolm in the Middle" did a dance routine to this as he trained Malcolm in skating.

In lacks depth and musical complexity. It makes no social statements, made as a love song, and, with this, few songs are weaker. And yet, it works. I love it.

A catchy guitar riff, a repeating chorus will suck you into a good groove as you strut through around town, getting fit and getting funky.

Lots of fun.

"Gotta make a move to a town that's right for me,
Town to get me movin'
Keep me groovin' with some
energy."

I fully recommend "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc.
