I love the Beatrice Young cat cozies, but this book seemed to miss the mark by a long shot. To bring us up into the premise that Beatrice is actually going to get married, then dump it on the stupid arbitrary ‘fiend’. The story had real potential. If Ms. Rogers had just made the ‘friend’ more important, less random, someone with a reason to mess with Bea. Not just a strange perpetrator with a sick mind that chooses a person out of the phone book as it is. IDK it just didn’t strike me as one of Ms. Rogers best.

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. I liked the fact that Beatrice was an older protagonist, more mature and sensible. That did not prevent her from getting involved in trouble but she handled that trouble more level-headed. I enjoyed getting to spend time with her and her friends. And you have to love her cats and their crime solving activities.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and drew me into the story right from the beginning. The mystery is well plotted and not easily solved, which is fine with me.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. And if you are a cat lover, then you really should check it out.
