I purchased this with the matching bird bath and at 5 years of use. I'm still thrilled at how durable they have both been. I did not fill the post with sand. We did purchase additional stakes as a precaution but haven't had the wind take it down once. If I knew there was a heavy storm coming, I would bring it into the garage for safety though. There is very little wear of coating even after 5 years of use, and that is only on the base at ground level just a tiny bit and obviously inside where seed is placed. Neither of which is noticeable unless you're inspecting for it. It's very attractive in the flower garden and after all of these years, there has been no damage or cracking at all. I'm really amazed at how little wear in the coating there has been after taking a beating in the sun from April - October. We store it in our garage during harsh winter months which I'm sure prolongs the beauty and life. I would recommend purchasing the matching bird bath as well. And I am extremely happy with how this has served the birds, and our enjoyment of watching them. The matching bird bath has a bit more wear on the coating due to soaking in water 24-7 for 5 years but it's not at all bothersome. Our friends, neighbors, family and visitors all comment on how pretty the set is and a new neighbor just asked me where I purchased it. She was quite impressed how well it looks after 5 years and thought it was only a year old.
First, Ill start by saying that I read all the reviews before getting it. I decided to get it despite the negative reviews.
When I 1st took it from the box I did not see any screws, as were in a few posts. I went ahead & started putting it together anyway. OK. I am blonde. The screws were taped under the stand !!! LOL. It took me about 1/2 hour to assemble it while the birds watched in anticipation.
I filled the base with sand (as Pixie, a review suggested) & screwed the pole to the feeder. What a great piece !! Its close to the house so I can look out the window. I filled it with sunflower seeds. Within an hour there were 4 house finchs feeding from their new home !!!
I have many feeders around my house which mostly attract sparrows, morning doves, once in a while a woodpecker, cardnials & black birds. So, attracting more songbirds is exactally what I wantted. At 1 time, a black bird flew by & tried to knock it over. Didn't work !! HaHa. So far, no problem with squirls.
Ive had this less then a week & so far Im more that satisfied. Weather or not Ill move it deeper in the yard, I dont know yet. Right now, the songbirds & i
seem to like it just fine where it is.
Thare are 2 finchs feeding in the gazebo feeder now !!
After rigging this product, it was usable and is in my gargen. It is attractive and the birds love it!
It is a heavy plastic but looks nice. I had to file a lot of seams down to make it more appealing.
All in all, I am disappointed in the missing of parts, time wasted on "making it work", and the filing of seams to make it more attractive. I feel this was a case of someone dropping the ball. If it wasn't for the one fact that my birds love it...it would've went back!!
