If you like snarky teenage heroines, then this book will feed your craving. You might even be ready to smack someone upside the head after a few chapters. But Megan has a good reason for all her irritation. It just takes too long for her to figure it out.
Also, for someone who didn't believe in magic, she seemed to acclimate to the world of supernatural creatures pretty easily. (I really want to slap her mother for not being more forthcoming.)
My favorite part is the mystery. It isn't too complex, but it adds spice since the romantic element is stuck in the "attraction" phase for this book. I like that since we have the entire series to develop the relationship, and I hope Haag will give us more than physical attraction and instinct. I'd like for teen readers to see that a lasting relationship isn't just about the hormones, and I think Haag has the skill and depth to do that.
I'm looking forward to joining Megan in her journey of self-discovery. If you like all sorts of mythological creatures and would love to see them interacting in a realistic way with our modern world, you'll want to read this book. And you may want to pet a griffin after reading, too.
I've been on the Melissa band wagon from the beginning. I've read everything she has written, and when I saw the blurb for this book, I knew I had to try it out. I was so pleasantly surprised by HOW MUCH I ended up loving it.
Plot wise, Melissa has always been a genius. This is no exception. While we don't get a HUGE idea of what the overarching plot will be, Fury Frayed sets the tone and the pace for the books that will follow. There are so many new creatures that I haven't seen in many novels as of late: Succubi and Griffins, then there are also the paranormal creatures that we all are very familiar with and love: Werewolves and mermaids and sirens. There is this beautiful blend of these mythical creatures that live all together trying to figure out how to live with the rest of humanity, and it's bloody hilarious.
If we are talking characters, then Melissa has outdone herself. Those that loved Bethi and Isabelle from Jo6 will find Megan quite the sarcastic and temperamental treat. She is a no BS, boss of a teenager, and you instantly fall in love with her. There is no maiden to be saved here people, Megan will save her damn self- and all of her friends while she is at it. She does not play the victim, because she's the hero. And along for the ride you have a shameless flirt of a werewolf, a overprotective griffin who brings loyalty to a whole new level, and a slightly insecure hugmaster of a succubus. The mash of these characters is so humorous, but also works really well together.
Overall, you wont be disappointed, I promise. If you were debating reading this novel, do it. If you weren't sure you can fall in love with characters again after the Judgement of Six series, you can. If you need a good laugh and fantastic writing to boot, look no further. This is going to be such an amazing series, I can't wait for all of you to fall in love with these characters like I have <3
(SIDE NOTE: If you dont buy this book for any other reason, there is a Clabby scene at the end that you DO NOT want to miss! It's to die for!)
Megan, the main character, must discover who she is while attempting to navigate an unknown world full of danger. She immediately meets a cute guy, infuriates his mean-girls’ harem, gets thrown into a new and very high school cliquish academy, and stumbles almost literally upon a hottie hero.
Sound like a great start to a novel? It is!
I loved Megan from the start. She is strong, witty, smart, snarky and has major anger issues that lead to some entertaining fights.
A story by Melissa Haag is not complete without a few hot guys. Fenris, the charming wolf-shifter, is awesome. He’s cocky, sexy, and has his own harem, but there’s a softer side to this alpha-wolf. Can’t wait to see more of him.
Oanen is every girl’s dream guy: tall, blonde, big muscles, and super protective. He commands the attention and respect of everyone, but tens to irritate Megan a little. He also is a hugger. ;0)
Eliana is the best friend everyone should have. She is super sweet, loyal, fun, protective and has a way with men. I look forward to seeing more from her. She also teams up with Megan against the Mean girls group.
This book has it all angst, mystery, danger, humor and romance. I liked that the mystery unfolded slowly throughout the book and we had to find out information along with Megan. I cannot wait for book two.

Megan is thrust into a whole new world of gods, mythical creatures, legends and so much more. This is where she meets different students of Girderon Academy including her New best friend Eliana and Oanen a very handsome Griffin who just can't seem to leave her alone weather in her dreams or on top of her roof. Going to a new academy is not the only thing Megan has to deal with she has to discover where she fits in into this World as she isn't what she though she was (Human) especially her being the new girl and fresh meat. Megan has to deal with jealous Over-sensitive blondes, a copper out to get her, a wolf boy who seem to cause mischief, a shy succubus best friend, A Protective Griffin and everyone in town believing she's a murderer.
What's a new girl to do, than come out fighting and prove her innocence...... I truly love this book and can't wait to move on to the second to learn more about Megan how she deals with her new life....
The book is about a group of supernatural beings, all of different races and abilities, who struggle with what they are and how to adapt in human society. They are 'locked' away in a town where they are guided on their paths until they are ready to venture out. The story focusses on Megan who needs to figure out what she is (not telling you here) and how to build relationships with others.
I am looking forward to read book 2.
For me, the relationships are important and these are documented impeccably throughout the book.
Again, this book was 'unputdownable' (I would never make it as an author using words like this) but the truth is, once you start reading, you have to keep on until the end because it's so enthralling.
Anyone who enjoys reading fantasy should enjoy this book.
The addition at the end of the book for all Judgement the Six fans was a nice touch - can't wait for the next novella.
It is a quick but action packed read; there is monsters, gods, murder and teen angst. I was never overwhelmed with the information provided for the purpose of world building within the story telling and really enjoyed the authors style of writing.
This is clearly the beginning of a series (not sure how many books expected) and introduced a good cast of characters that I can't wait to learn more about.
