So, this is the end ("my only friend, the end" - okay, anyone under 30 probably won't get that)... the end of the Portal Chronicles. After I dried my tears and opened this book up, the author was able to completely transport me back into the Darley world, it's like we never left. The flawless transition from book to book is what makes this series spectacular.
Here's the thing... I could sit here and give you the plot, but I'll let you read the description and I really don't want to give anything away. This was one of the better endings to a series. It wrapped it all up nicely, but left you with a little of wanting more and perhaps a way to get a little more. I hope to one day meet Arizona again, but at least we know some of the cast will carry on.
Highly recommended for young adult readers - and adults. Easily one of my favorite authors these days with a writing style to sell your soul to the devil for.
Fans of the series will not be disappointed with the ending!
I was provided and advance copy of this book.
Reaching the end of a favorite series, which this has become, is bittersweet. The cliché says that all good things must come to an end, and I suppose that's right. A book series that goes on too long often falls into the trap of too much repetitiveness and formula, and I appreciate that the Portal Chronicles are concluding before that had a chance to happen. I've enjoyed watching Rose grow as a storyteller and author, and look forward to continuing to do so as her other series progress.
