I gotta admit, I didnt have high hopes for this CD. I bought this mostly on a whim, expecting yet another Tuonela-era Amorphis copy, but thinking 'a good copy of Amorphis is still good'. This is no Amorphis copy and I am so glad. Rapture does some amazing work and have a flavor all their own. I dont think I could even attempt to describe their sound. I just couldnt do them justice. They have all the best elements of atmospheric doom with plenty of subtle nods to the best of melodic death metal. Dont pass this up if you love atmospheric, heavy music. Totally killer.

I first heard about this obscure band in a chat room, I was asking if anyone had any information on another great band, October Tide, and then someone mentioned this band and told me that if I liked old Katatonia or October Tide I would love this band. So I ordered both albums, "Futile" left me with my mouth open. It was like a band had heard me talk about how I would love a band to sound and based on that went ahead and did the music. It is impossible to label such an elaborate piece of art. The opening track "To Forget" is and ode to heart break in the most amazing way. It sets the tone for what is to come, track by track, the album seems to suck you in completly. All 6 tracks are beautifully written and very emotional, my personal favorites are "While the world sleeps" and "Someone I dont know". The band is just great, all the band members can certainly hold their own and the voice is KILLER! A dark melancholic wail that seems to twist in pain and make everything the more real. I havent heard much about this band, but it really is a shame that so many Metalheads are missing out on this great band. After one listen you will be hooked, wanting to hear more. Fans of Opeth, Katatonia, early Anathema will love this type of music.

Buy this today, if your even the least bit interested in Doom metal. I could leave it at that, but I guess I've got to qualify my statement. The only two Doom bands on Rapture's level are Anathema and Katatonia. I haven't owned this album long enough to decide, but maybe their even better than those two mentioned above. The vocals are deep and gutteral similar to Mike Ackerfeldt's style but more emotive. The riffs, as you've probably heard, are very similar to pre-Discouraged Ones Katatonia with a bit of melodeath playing thrown in as well. Drums and bass hold down well, though not anything too amazing. If you like either Melodeath or Doom you'll almost certainly love this album.

This CD deserves all of the praise it can get. It is a great example of doom metal at it's most emotionally charged state. If you are interested in doom metal or melodic death and want to listen to an angst-heavy masterpiece, this is it. I had only heard mention of this band before buying this CD, but i am so glad I did. The only thing wrong with this CD is that it is too short (that's why it got 4 stars).I wish it was a bit longer, but it wasn't very expensive and it's worth every penny anyway. I am definately convinced that these Finns know how to create powerful metal.
