I was highly disappointed with this product. I have used Futura for years and hoped it would work the same way. The Chapatis/Tortillas/ Rotis I make come out burnt even when making at the lowest gas.

Despite spending close to $40, I am very unhappy with the product.

My sister from India bought this as a gift to make Dosa for my kids. But this product sticks to the dough when poured on the hot surface, even at reduced heat. I have tried various temperatures. I followed the instructions exactly. I have been making dosa for over 40 years and never had a product this bad. Funny thing is that a cheap walmart griddle worked far better. The anticlimax was my little daughter wanted to see how the dosa is made and she was looking forward to see something like what her aunt (my sister) makes. She was so disappointed. After trying several times, I decided to return this product. It did work with chappathis, nans and other dishes that are more consistent in texture. The picture on the box indicates that this would also make dosas and thats why my sister bought this for me. I have other Hawkins pots and pants that never gave any problem.

This was a great griddle for rotis and parathas but impossible to get clean afterwards. Just after 2 days of use and cleaning according to the instructions, cleaning only with non stick scrubbers, it looked like we had been using it for years. Good idea but very high maintenance.

I am writing this review after holding the product for 3 years. Yes, I did not try for almost 3 years since when I tried making dosas, they stuck.
Then I read all reviews recently, and became aware of how to use it. This is the only tawa you will ever need for any kind of dosas, parathas, uttapams and tawa fried recipes.

Steps for making dosa:
1. Heat tawa till very hot (without any oil), till you can feel the hotness of you hold your palm few inches above tawa.
2. Smear oil evenly.
3. Simmer to low heat.
4. Pour dosa batter and cook as usual, over low flame only. Drizzle few drops of oil or ghee on each dosa you make, everytime.

1. Though paratha cook evenly, the oil sticks to tawa's surface and it is very difficult to clean.
2. The tawa does not have edges, so there is always a danger of paratha or roti falling off while turning.
3. You cannot make dosa. It simply sticks.
4. It is heavy, takes time to heat. This is good for heating evenly at all points.
5. The quality of coating looks sturdy.

It is useful for making chapatis.... And for Dosa it's not good.... First u have to apply oil and wait till it is smoky ... Then remove oil , and then spread Dosa batter.... Sometimes it doesn't work for our urad Dal Dosa .... Instead go for nonstick only
