The author has figured out how to get beyond the fire brigade and think about what is really coming. David raises the prose from lets have a chat to hey, we MUST think about this or we are going to get our collective butts kicked.
Reading this will inspire. But it will also make you sweat a little. Better to sweat now and be prepared. A little extra thinking and preparation goes a long way to dealing with pain later. That way you won't have to do fire bucket teaching. You'll be ready.
David's book is filled with lots of personal anecdotes and stories which makes it enjoyable reading as well. My favorite is about when he accidentally posted something on social media that was meant for his wife's eyes only. Oops.
I loved it. And I learned. And I squirmed a little too.
"Future Driven" is a powerful combination of pedagogy and leadership. He challenges readers and educators to take inventory of what is going on in their classrooms and school culture while considering if what is happening is indeed future driven. For Guerin challenges, you are either working in a time-capsule or a time machine. Throughout the book, you will feel the passion he has for students, teachers, and leadership. The stories and advice from his experiences in life, teaching, and leadership are inspirational and insightful.
This will be a new staple in my library and will be one I will often revisit to be inspired and challenged to continue to look to the future and make a lasting and meaningful change.
By highlighting great thought leaders in both education and business, Guerin pushes what is possible through dedicated self-reflection. Educational leaders and teachers would benefit from reading this book. If your like Eric Sheninger, A.J. Juliani, or George Couros; this book is for you. There is nothing formulaic in this book. The answers cannot come from one individual. Instead, the answers are where you are at any given time. Guerin speaks with passion and encourages a matching action filled with the same drive. To folks who are content with the status quo...Your minds will change after reading this book.
His book will expand and push your idea of what schools have always looked like and what they could like with a Future Driven mindset. "Our school system is designed like this. Show up, Listen, Follow instructions. Do what you're told. Take notes. Study for your test. Try hard. Do your homework. In school, you stand out by being the best at fitting in. But life isn't like that, not anymore."
"Focus on what students are becoming, not just on who they are right now. You can see things in them they don't see in themselves."
"Education is an investment in a life, not a number."
Take time to refresh yourself with this read and challenge how and to what boundaries you are pushing your student by getting your copy of Future Driven.
