PS, join Ms. Grainger's website, and you'll get more wonderful personal stories from the author herself!
But I have become addicted to Jean Grainger's books! She is so good at describing places and conversations, you feel like you're there beside them, unflinchingly eavesdropping!
Her characters are wonderfully built up from their introduction, as you learn to love (or detest) them with each new revelation. And each one has strengths & fears in a such a wide variety of interesting areas, you begin to see them as real people instead of stereotypes.
Read the book. You will be unwilling to leave the story until you find out how your favorite people fare under Grainger's caring, surprising, dramatically inventive hand.
Not desiring to ruin your reading, I will not elaborate on the story line, but endeavor to point out why this is a powerful book which I found to be quite true to life. If a person has not experienced trauma in their life, it may not resonate with all readers. For others, it will cry out with the message, “ You are not alone!” It cries out to the lost and alone, to those trying to find their way and gives hope to those struggling to break free of fear and uncertainty. Plus, it is a story of hope with the possibility of love and reconciliation.
Jean Grainger has a gift which has enabled her to paint a picture of the characters and their surroundings, along with dialogue which further allows the reader insight into those same people. In addition to that, her texts are nearly flawless regarding format, grammar, spelling and story flow. Once begun, this book is hard to stop reading until the end. I want to know what happened with the people in this book, even though they are fictional. For myself, it is a revealing of how powerful Grainger’s writing is; she drew me and made the story come alive.
If you have read previous books by this author you may find it a tad different from those as the focus is mainly on one person and not a large group. However, the group is there if one reflects after finishing the book. It is supportive, but more spread out. I am, of course, comparing it to the “bus tour” books. Believe me, it powerful! The topics contained within are not pretty, but are not depicted in a graphic or offending manner — they are reported, not exploited.
This is an excellent book which more than fulfills my standards for a good read. It is one which will resonate with readers for a long time. All thumbs, fingers and toes up! I give a wholehearted recommendation to this awesome book!
I laughed and cried throughout this story as secrets were revealed and people died. The author's writing style was comfortable and welcoming. She makes it seem that writing a book is easy which I am sure it is not.
Please don't stop writing because your stories are my soft place to land at the end of the day
