Editorial Reviews

With over thirty years of dance floor expertise, Danny has carved an indelible mark on electronic dance music, past, present, and future. Clubbers report seemingly inhuman mixing capabilities, booth-to-floor telepathy, and the grittiest modern yet classic grooves they have ever heard come out of a speaker. This is Tenaglia's first compilation album in five years.

although its probably not for everybody, every time i listen to it, i like it more and more. if you're looking for alot of vocals, you wont see many here. this is filled with deep funky, futuristic tribal beats. this is a good representation of danny tenaglia live. this guy is a pioneer in the industry who continues to stride forward. he just keeps getting better and better. long live dt

It's interesting to see such a wide range of reviews on this album. Apparently it's not for everyone. I, however, love it. I play it all the time in the background while working. I never seem to tire of it.

I have been a fan of Danny Tenaglia since the mid-90s. His live sets are the best that ANYone has done. The days at Vinyl in NYC were perhaps some of the best music I have heard. The Futurism cd, in my view, would have been better to take us back to those days, but update it for the future. Unfortunately, this set does not. I hope this is not the future.

CD#1: Is highly experimental. There are many classic Tenaglia elements (no pun intended) that bring you back to those heady 90s megaclub days. This set is never boring.

It is dark, almost mean and sinister, but not in hard charging, danceable way that Danny fans have come to expext and want. The sounds are overly mechanical in places and flat in others.

There at attempts at electro that sometimes work, but are not really what you buy Danny Tenaglia music for. He includes a few tracks with driving beats -- the hard, stompin' grooves that make you want to move (Track #14) -- but they are mixed in with plateaus that merely get by (Tracks 9-10) and have you wait for the next excitement to come along. Truly experimental, without the well-thought-out direction and focus of previous cd releases and certainly his live performances. Including noises that sound like a broken alarm clock (Track #8, #11) is never fun and never excusable.

CD#2: Is harder to describe. Tracks #1-#6 have some elements of good music, but not enough to keep you interested or happy. There is no direction or focus in the mixing, no story to tell, no trip or journey to take with him. It sounded like a broken dishwasher motor was the primary source of the sounds. None of the talent we buy Danny for. Boring.

Tracks #7 to the end are a dramatic improvement and makes you stand up and take notice.

I've been waiting for a new mix from Danny for ages, and this for me is better than the Global Underground CD's he did a few years ago that are also superb. This is a Mix CD to listen to over and over again and yes it does take some repeated listening to aclimatise to his 'new sound' but it is as soulful as ever, just a different manifestation of the totally unique sound that Danny Tenaglia has been creating for many years. The sound quality is also fantastic, and for me this is the closest you will get to experiencing him live. This CD demands repeated listening before making a judgement - I had it on full blast on my bycle yesterday and got home 10 minutes faster than normal due to the drive and power the music has! some of the tracks reminded me of putting a microphone in your stomach whilst you had really bad cramps! THIS IS TWISTED TENAGLIA AT HIS BEST! Sleevenotes are touching as its been a tough old year for him personally (this mix is dedicated to his Mother and Aunt who sadly passed (his Aunt was responsible for turning him on to much diverse music as a child in the 60/70's growing up in Brooklyn) this is something special. BUY IT!

My second Danny Tenaglia CD that I've purchased. I became a fan when I purchased Global Underground - London about 10 years ago and I was looking for driving music for a 16 hour solo drive. This CD was unlike the London CD but upon a quick reflection - 10 minutes into the CD - I realized that the cover art didn't deceive. It was great to hear Danny Tenaglia's range however I couldn't listen to an entire CD in one setting. Some of the music got to be too much. It you are a Club Music DJ looking for extensive break beats then this a great CD.

Wow this set is awesome - fresh new sounds, progressive and techy yet it still thumps and grooves through most of the tracks. Let me just start by saying this is my first Danny Tenaglia album. I'm new to this genre but have acquired 40 albums in 6 months from Cattaneo, Seaman, Fanciulli, Zabiella, Kleinenberg, Tomeii, Digweed, Holden, Lawler, Warren and so on, I have heard much of what is available out there. This set is as good as it gets. Its worth the price of admision for "Emergency" on disc 1 alone. This equals Seaman's or Lawler's best.

I think some of the poorer ratings here are from longtime Tenaglia fans. They didn't get what they were used to. I had no preconceptions. This Album is the S@#T! Be ready for some strange mixes! But what makes this work is that there is usually a funky bouncy driving bass/percusion track that makes everything groove! If you don't like the song "Emergency" on Disc one, pay no attention to my reviews from here on out! Good luck and enjoy!

Firstly I would strongly recommend you listen to both CD's back to back.

The first CD teases you. It flicks all the switches, turns all the knobs and checks the lights. Putting out feelers in different directions and gives you hints of your possible destination. It's in CD2 that you know you're moving. The wheels are up as the ground falls away. Destination still unknown, but the smile on your face is enough to tell everybody you don't care. It's the getting there that's all the fun.

Those Danny Tenaglia fans whom have waited the six years or so for another of his compilations you'll be greeted with a little of the familiar, a lot of the new and glimpse of a very inciting future, all with the unique Danny Tenaglia signature. His work reminds you of why you love music and how great you feel when it surprises you. This CD really does show Danny is still pointing the way and wherever he decides to take us next, all I can ask is ....save me a seat.
