G.O.O.D. Music is the bar everyone else is judge by

Listen, there is no other Hip-Hop collective that is as diverse, original, talented or capable to put a strong theme together and actually make it work to the point where you question everything else that is out. Somehow Kanye has this ability to take songs and make them pop hit's without losing the songs authenticity and the closest thing I have seen to this is maybe Rick Ross but him orchestrating his team to produce something like this isn't possible and hasn't been done since Dr. Dre dropped the Chronic albums (which to me was a compilation since it had all his protege's and friends on it). Kanye is carrying that flag now and doing a damn good job of it and right now G.O.O.D. Music is really the bar everyone is measured on. They are just better in every way and it shows on this album. The only thing is will say to people wondering about the sound on this album is understand that this is Hip-Hop, not pop. If you want to hear pop music that sounds similar to 808's and heartbreaks Kanye than this is not for you. If you want to hear the best Hip-Hop there is out there, something that will push the bounds with different instruments, flow patterns and overall quality of music then you'll love this. All they did was take Watch the Throne and and throw some more lyrical ability on it. It's dope from top to bottom and there isn't one song I would skip on the album. It's definitely going to contend for Hip-Hop album of the year.

It's A Great Album, Although A Bit Repetitive... (3.5/5)

GOOD Music's Cruel Summer is a great rap album. First, these artists are all very talented. Most of the lyrics are great for what they're supposed to be; the production is also great, the beats are amazing and crisp when you listen through some high-quality headphones. Standout tracks are:
- To The World (great way to start off the album, especially with R. Kelly's hypnotizing vocals.)
- Clique (great beat and great lyrics)
- Mercy (amazing sampling, amazing production, and the artists flow with the beat very well)
- New God Flow
- Cold.1 (although it feels like a mixtape track with DJ Khaled on it, I still like this cocky Kanye West)
- The One (Marsha did well, and the verses were great)
- Creepers (Kid Cudi's solo song, it has the Cudi signature sound. Very laidback, and one of the deeper songs. Although not his best, I was hoping to hear more from him on this compilation)
- Don't Like (more of a hype/radio track, but still very good.)

It may seem like I liked most if the album, and that's because I did. But it does feel a bit repetitve and lacks structure; for example, although I really liked "Creepers", it definitely felt out of place. I was hoping for more variety, a couple of deep/introverted songs wouldn't hurt, right? Ultimately, it feels closer to a mixtape than to an album. Stream some of the songs to see if you'd like it before purchasing, I don't regret it but I can't recommend purchasing the whole album.

Pretty D**n good!

Ok. So how do you judge this compilation CD? Do you judge it by the brand new tracks or do you judge it by every song even the ones that we have all been hearing/bumping/dancing to over the last few months. It's tempting to just look at the songs we haven't heard - and say well this album is just "ok" Most of the new songs are bangers except for a couple of RandB tracks that aren't that great. Personally, i think you have to judge this album as awhile. It's already had 5 SINGLES....5 SINGLES that's unheard of. This is an amazing album. No it's not MBDTF or Graduation or any other Kanye solo work. This is a group album...and come on it definitely KILLS MMG Selfmade Vol 1and2. Over the past year, Kanye has become one of my favorite MC's. He's got the midas touch right now...and this album continues to WOW. Can't wait to hear his next solo but until then I'll be bumping this 4 awhile! Worth every penny!!

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

Kanye handled business in this album and showed that he has really cemented himself as one of hip-hop's greatest ever. I like that he wasn't on every track and gave his GOOD music label signees a chance to show off their skills. I think that Big Sean and Cyhi really took care of business on their respective tracks. I really like how Kanye mixed in several GOOD music affiliates on several tracks also. Supposedly there are several unreleased tracks that were no put on the album. So I hope they have another GOOD friday's collection come out. Overall though, best collaboration album I have ever heard.

Not a typical Kanye album

Kanye's Good Music family did not rise to the occasion on this album. It will not be in my rotation next month and will be forgotten very soon. In a way, it's great that the other artists were able to maintain their personal styles, but fans of Kanye should know before purchasing that this is not on par with his solo albums. (Of course, no one promised that it would be.) The best tracks are on the radio, with the exception of Raekwon's "The Morning."

Classic Kanye, no revolution this time

If you loved any of Kanye's last albums, you will vibe with this one.

There were no moments like past albums where I thought "I need to change my pants, I just s*** myself" but this is a good album nonetheless. The reviews on the rest of the internet say about the same, most people are close to on the fence on this one, no one else s*** their pants cause they love it or hate it, but if your favorite Chi-town rapper collection is getting stale this will give you a "tape full of dope beats to bump when you stroll through in your hood"

Cruel Summer is a good soundtrack for a party, but that's about it

The album as a whole is great to listen to while at a party or in the mood to get pumped up. I could see myself listening to the last track, "I Don't Like" while doing some crunches and leg lifts, but as a piece of art I say it could be better. There was nothing in the album that really made me think. I would say "New God Flow" was the closest I came to having an intellectual conversation with myself. "Clique" is a great track to play before going out, getting your ego going with all your friends, but many of the fillers in between these two songs are wasted space.
