This movie is kind of a sequel to the first GI Joe movie, Rise of Cobra, continuing part of that storyline and then branching way off of it, so it then mostly becomes a reboot. Some of the cast members from the first movie do make an appearance, but most of them amount to extended cameos. Some roles were recast, and some of the characters, such as The Baroness and Destro were not used in this movie. This one stars The Rock as Roadblock and Adrienne Palicki as Lady Jaye, the two main Joe characters (along with Snake Eyes, played by Ray Park). The bulk of the story involves the plot by Cobra to use Zartan to impersonate the President of the United States and bring down GI Joe. There is a large parallel story that involves Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow and goes into their rivalry.

The A/V quality of the Blu-Ray is very good. The picture looks great, and the special effects are seamless. The extras include a commentary track on the movie by the director and producer, then there are just over an hour's worth of making-of and behind-the-scenes featurettes, as well as a few deleted scenes. So if you like watching the bonus material there is a decent amount.

Overall, the movie is a good action movie, but not great. Not even as good as the first movie (in my opinion). I would have liked more of the characters to come back and not just have small roles. I am fine using the additional characters but I would have liked more of a conclusion to Duke and Baroness' storyline and bring back characters like Scarlett and Ripcord. I also think that expanding the role of Cobra Commander with Joseph Gordon Levitt and bringing back Christopher Eccleston as Destro would have been a wise move. Obviously, like the first movie, this is not an academy award-winning drama. It is a summer blockbuster action movie, and it most definitely stays in that lane. But, if you are looking for an action movie with tons of explosions and great fight scenes, this is definitely a good one.

As someone who grew up with the cartoon & comics there is plenty to say about the film versions, 2009's "Rise of Cobra" did get some things right, casting Rachel Nichols as "Scarlett" & Sienna Miller as "Baroness" was right on target, as was Ray Park as "Snake Eyes", (see review from 2009) this new film is about the same but suffers some inconsistencies as well, things they got right...."Duke"(Channing Tatum) & "Roadblock's" (The Rock) freindship is on par with the comics, & The Rock definately looks the part no doubt, as with the first film, "Snake Eyes" & "Storm Shadow's" connection is explored once more, "Zartan" impersonating the President, & yes, this time they get Cobra Commander right!... "Firefly" is portrayed accurately,.... things they got wrong....killing off Duke (was pushed back 9 months so Tatum could get more screen time, what screen time???)...never happened in the comics, "Cobra Commander" & "Storm Shadow" leaving "Destro" to die,(what??)....no explanation as to what happened to "Baroness, Scarlett, Breaker, Ripcord, & Hawk" from the first film, Paramount was too cheap to bring back Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans, & Dennis Quaid, but not explaining their fates was even cheaper!!, a line of dialogue would have been nice, but noooooo!!!...we are left to wonder, Sienna Miller in 2009 said she was paid to appear in three "G.I.Joe" films as Baroness, I guess she got a free paycheck for not appearing here, this is what happens when you put idiots in charge of a franchise like this, there are however some high points to this one that I will point out, Adrianne Palecki as "Lady J", simply beautiful, so much so that I am willing to forgive Paramount for depriving me of Rachel Nichols as Scarlett, the mountain top fight sequence involving Snake Eyes & Jinx vs Storm Shadow's guards has to be seen to be believed, a simply breath taking action sequence, the action set pieces are more this time around, the world leader's summitt meeting is to close to a terrifying reality when the president (Zartan) launches all of the U.S. nukes, forcing the other world leaders to do the same, all in an attempt to disarm the world & take control, all orchestrated by Cobra Commander, this kind of thing was always hinted at in the comics & cartoon, Bruce Willis appearing as the original Joe from the 60's toy line was fun, talk about a guy packing heat, the hiding places in his home is a home invader's worst nightmare, & Willis hams it up no doubt, all in all this one is more of the same, like the first film it is hit & miss, as I stated in my review of that one, you shouldn't go in with high expectations, or expecting Paramount to have learned anything from the first film's mixed reaction, but if you want some cool action/fight scenes, then this is your film, & Adrianne Palecki will definately keep you watching no matter what.

A sequel finally arrives to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra [DVD ], the movie based on the toy range/comics/tv cartoons of super elite soldiers v evil villains that influenced many a childhood.

The first movie did reasonably okay, but was adjudged by some not to have quite gotten things right. Thus this sequel is also a reboot for the franchise, as a lot changes in it. Almost none of the characters from said first film turn up, and most who do aren't around for long.

There is a brief bit of exposition at the start which fills in what has happened in the time elapsed between the two movies. This may be enough to help those who haven't seen the first film get into this. Although if you're going to be watching it ten chances are you have seen it, or you're a fan of the toys/comics/tv cartoons, so it may not be a problem.

Duke [Channing Tatum] is now leading the Joes, and enjoying typical action movie male buddy scenes with Roadblock [Dwayne Johnson].

At the end of the first film, it was revealed that the US President had been kidnapped and replaced by evil master of disguise Zoltan [Jonathan Pryce. In both roles]. And now he makes his move. Which leaves evil villain leader Cobra commander back in the game. And the Joes presumed traitors and wiped out because of it.

However, Roadblock, Lady Jaye [Adrianne Palicki] and Flint [DJ Cotrona] manage to survive. As does Snake Eyes [only other Joe from the first film to still be around, since he's off elsewhere when things go bad]. Can the fugitive Joes survive, clear their name, and stop Cobras evil scheme?

Whereas the first film was very much summer blockbuster material, this tries more to be a hard edged action movie. Whilst the villains of the piece are all slightly exaggerated characters, but played just straight enough to make them work fine - Jonathan Pryce clearly has a lot of fun cutting loose as Zoltan and gets some great dialogue with it, and Ray Stevenson does make an impression and pitches his performance as Firefly just right, the Joes are all a bit straight laced and down to Earth. Roadblock being capably played by Dwayne Johnson, but he's no more than a typical role for him. Flint manages to be an even blander character/performance than Duke in the first film. And Lady Jaye is generic female action heroine fighting to get some respect from the guys.

Bruce Willis features as the founder of the Joe organisation. But gets so little screen time you never really find why his character is supposed to be so special. And he does play the role on autopilot, being no more than Bruce Willis as action hero.

It does have some good set pieces but it does have long moments of the Joes doing non action things with only some occasionally decent character moments to liven them up.

But it does in the middle have a superb sequence which draws upon a popular issue of the comic to bring you a ninja battle with no dialogue and fighting taking place on ropes hanging off high mountains, which is very memorable.

All in all a decent and capable action movie, but one that could perhaps have been a bit more fun. How fans of the original material take to it will be a matter of opinion.

Was kann man über ein Film wie G.I Joe 2 schon sagen? Es handelt sich um ein unterhaltsamen Actionfilm mit top Effekten nicht mehr aber auch nicht weniger. Zugegeben die Story ist eigentlich bei diesem Film belanglos.
Aber ist das wirklich so schlimm? Es gibt so viele Filme wo die Story an zweiter Stelle steht und die trotzdem gut sind. Der Unterhaltungswert von G.I Joe 2 ist meiner Meinung nach sehr hoch! Furiose Fight und Schiessereien sorgen dafür das keine lange Weile aufkommt! Es kracht und knallt an allen Ecken und Kanten! Optisch ist dies sehr beeindruckend in Szene gesetzt wurden. Was auch positiv ist das der Film sich nicht zu ernst nimmt und The Rock als Neuzugang! Es macht einfach Spass diesen Bullen zuzugucken wie er alles platt macht!
Der Extended Cut geht ca 13 Min. länger als die Kinofassung. Auch hier kann man nur positives sagen denn die neuen Szenen sind so gut wie alle reine Actionszenen die den Film noch rasanter und teilweise härter machen!
Dennoch ist der Härtegrad von Teil 1 etwas höher! Aber Actionmäßig geht bei beiden ordentlich die Post ab.
Ich finde G.I Joe 2 einfach super weil mich der Film sehr unterhällt und das hällt was er verspricht! Nämlich brachiale Action in Top Optik! Da kann man schonmal über die Schwächen der Story leicht hinwegsehen!

Zur Blu ray:
Ich habe mich für die Standard Blu ray entschieden und nicht für die 3D Variante. Ganz einfach aus dem Grund weil die 3D Blu ray nur die kürzere Kinofassung beinhaltet. Denn in diesem Fall ist der Extended Cut wirklich die bessere Fassung!

Bild:
Die 2D Fassung bietet wirklich eine sehr gelungende Bildpresentation! Gestochen scharf und sehr detailreich.
Die Farben kommen sehr natürich und sauber rüber. Jedes noch so kleine Detail kann man herraussehen.
So und nicht anders sollte ein Film heutiger Zeit aussehen. Es gibt wirklich nichts zu beanstanden.

Ton:
Die Deutsche Tonspur liegt mal wieder in Dolby Digital 5.1 vor. Aber keine Panik denn der Sound ist echt klasse!
Ich bin immer wider verplüfft wenn ich höre was man doch alles aus einer Dolby Digital Tonspur rausholen kann.
Denn der Klang bei G.I Joe 2 ist einfach gewaltig! Perfekte 5.1 Abmischung. Der Sound ist schön räumlich und kommt sehr effektiv aus allen Boxen. Die Stimmen sind immer bestens verständlich und klingen sehr sauber.
Wenn die Action so richtig losgeht bekommt der Subwoofer auch einiges zutun und bringt die Wände zum zittern!
Ohne sich in den Vordergrung zu drängen kommt der Bass sehr druckvoll und dynamisch rüber!
Mit so einem wuchtigen Sound kommen solche Filme noch viel besser rüber und es macht einfach Spass hier zuzuhören!
Auch beim Ton gibt es nichts auszusetzen!

Die Extras bieten auch einige interessante Einblicke. Könnten allerdings etwas mehr sein aber ok.
Die Blu ray bekommt außerdem noch ein Wendecover spendiert welches das große hässliche FSK Logo verschwinden lässt.

G.I Joe 2 ist ein sehr unterhaltsamer Actionfilm für zwischendurch. Wenn man den Film nicht alzu ernst nimmt kann man wirklich Freunde daran haben. Denn Actionmäßig geht hier einiges ab und lässt das Herz von Fans solcher Filme höher schlagen.
