The Suction Cup Was Dry-Rotted .Not The Seller Fault After Attached It To The Wind Shield It Failed To Hold The GPS.
Looking At The Suction Cup It Had Cracked And Tore Away From The Mount .But Not A Total Lost Went A Bought Sticky
Rubber Pad Place The Mount On It And The Dash Of The Car. It Work's Great Still It A Nice Product .Yes I Give The Seller
Five Stars . And The Factory A One Star. For A Faulty Product . Other Than That The Garmin Mount It Self Held The .
Gps The Factory Should Enclose A Sticky Pad For Dash Mount. To The Seller. Thank You.For Nice Product.
Luckily, nothing has broken so far, but now I resorted to tying this suction cup to the rearview mirror to prevent a mishap--and it has fallen several times since. In addition, the last replacement suction cup I bought broke where the metal pin is affixed to the base. When it is still working, this mount does a great job, and with the improvised nylon safety lanyard I am using, all I need do is reattach it to the windshield with no major consequence. I must say, however, that I continue rating Garmin as making the best GPS, in spite of this suction cup.
EDIT ONE: Lowered my rating to 3 stars . . . still the best thing out there I've found (fits both my Motorola Bionic mount & my Garmin mount) . . . BUT . . . I had 4 and two of them are busted now. The first my own fault for twisting too hard . . . but the next one the cup has started to separate from the body of the mount . . . will be useless by next trip & I don't think it will be trivial to repair.
I'll probably buy another couple & carry a spare . . . still better than the full-sized-non-collapsible mount for travel!
EDIT TWO: Lowered my rating to 1 star . . . third one busted. The cup on the 3rd one separated from the body of the mount again . . . too unreliable for travel use. I'm ditching this & gonna try another unit. This is what I'm going to try next: GN014: Mini Travel Windshield Suction Cup Mount for Garmin Nuvi and Streetpilot GPS a LOT bulkier . . . but . . . if it holds up . . . well . . . that's better than a broken mount every other week!
I purchased the same part number about 2 years ago and it worked fine. The suction cup on the item supplied this time does NOT WORK! Even with a thin coating of vaseline it will not seal! The suction cup appears to be made of a flexible vinyl material with a hard surface. It is not the same as the one I purchased 2 years ago.
It looks almost identical to the original, but the "ball" end is just slightly undersized, causing the Garmin to "flop" down and won't hold it in position.
I emailed my concern to the seller. They were very cordial, and immediately responded with an offer to reimburse me the PURCHASE PRICE (not including the shipping cost) after I mailed it back to them (at MY COST).
Because this would result in a loss of $10 and me having no product, I chose to keep the unit. I used a small piece of bowling tape to "shim" the ball up to a size which will hold the unit in place. One is not quite enough, so it's still on my "to do" list. Although I'm using it, it's a "make do" situation rather than one I'm happy with.
I suggest that others do not buy this unit. This is a case where you get what you pay for. Too good a deal to believe, so don't believe it.
