I had a non-working switch in my newly purchased condo. It was terribly annoying to walk into the room, hit the switch and have nothing happen. And before you think of telling me to check the outlets - I did. No outlets worked with the switch either. It simply was there for show only - no wires were connected. After asking some home repair people, I learned that adding wiring after the fact was a large project. This switch solved the problem very inexpensively and with no workmen - only a screwdriver, a wire cutter and about 10 minutes of my time. I did get a friend with a voltage-tester to make sure there was nothing live in the wires. Then I removed the old switch by unscrewing the switch plate and cutting the dead wires. This little switch fit right where the bad one was.

A note to GE: 5 minutes of the 10 was spent opening the very hard plastic these products were packaged in. Whoever invented that stronger-than-steel, environmentally unfriendly plastic should be taken out to the woodshed and SHOT!

The second part of this was even easier. I plugged the receptor into an open outlet, plugged a lamp into that and made sure the numbers agreed on the two devices (so they could talk). And Voila! It worked the very first time! I also found the directions easy to follow, which is rare these days.

This was so much fun, I started getting ideas. I now have a switch upstairs that turns on a light in the kitchen, so I can turn it on at night if I decide to go down for a snack and don't want to turn on the hall light. I have a list of other things I want to switch from unusual places. It works even if there is a chair in the way - totally cool!!!

I'm always showing it off, because I feel so smart for solving the problem myself for practically no money. I can't think of anything (other than the package) I didn't absolutely love! It was the perfect solution!

This wall switch works very well and I use it for a 3 light-bulb ceiling fixture.
The unit is very flexible in that it can be set to activate up to eight switches.
I even have this set up for one switch to activate three different receivers located at different locations in the house.
The closest receiver is about 12 feet and the farthest is about 25 feet through three walls
Two of the three bulbs are the bright cork-screw type CFL bulbs and one is a standard 40-watt incandescent.
That 40-watt bulb makes the switch function just fine.
The reason the CFL-only bulbs do not work is that most CFL bulbs use a rather small trickle of wattage to keep their circuits alive to enable the 'instant on' capability. People like this because it simulates the instant-on light from incandescent bulbs.
This small trickle of power flow fools the switch and causes the CFL bulbs to flicker.
Adding just one incandescent bulb acts as a sink for that small flow and blocks it enough to stop the flicker.
I successfully tried this switch in the downstairs family room with four 3-bulb fixtures: a total of 11 CFL and one 40-watt incandescent bulbs.
This is a great product and i recommend it.
The battery was dead upon arrival. It's a smallish 12v battery like the ones used for garage door remotes, alarm sensors, etc. A Common battery but a bit costly...

I was a little bit hesitant because this item didn't have the highest reviews, but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The RF remote/socket receiver works great, much better than expected! My apartment only had pull chain lights before, so this was much, much cheaper than destroying the walls to install conduit, electrical wire and a light switch (and much less time consuming).

My only complaint is that there is a very uncommon battery used in this remote (the first one comes included, don't worry). I'm afraid it's going to cost me an arm and a leg when it comes time to replace the batteries in these things.

There are 8 channels that are easily changeable, so you can cover many rooms in the house. Now let's just hope a neighbor doesn't think of the same, cheap renovation idea and start interfering with my RF channels...

Have been using this transmitter/receiver system for several years now and once in a while you will get a transmitter that only lasts a few months. Have purchased approximately a dozen and have had two fail within three months of being installed. Life expectancy of battery is of course dependent on how often transmitter is used.

I use this for a switch for an indicator at work, and it gets abused. Technicians turn it on every time they need parts from our parts window, so it gets used 50-100 times a day, and after almost six months, it's still going strong. I'm super happy about this purchase, and if I needed something for home, I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

Very good product - PROVIDED - you replace the dead battery it comes with. It wouldn't be at all difficult to test before shipping out - all they would have to do is press the button and the light on the transmitter should light up (again, if the battery works!) I took off two stars since it cost $3.00 to replace the dead battery.

This GE series (together with the 51140 outlet, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00032ATVK) has no equivalent on the market.

First you have 8 channels to chose for devices in your house.
Second, you can have your own "house" code (4 options) so if your neighbor has one of these, you can just change the code and problem solved. Effectively you have 32 channels to choose from.

Third, you can get as many remotes as you wish, so I have a total of 3 remotes in my bedroom: one of each side of the bed and another at the entrance to the room. If I had to re-wire the bedroom just for that, it would have cost me a lot more the roughly $45 bucks I paid for the set, not to mention the mess involved.

Before I had this product, I had a simpler ones I picked up at walgreens a few years ago. They were $17 for the set but the code was fixed so I had to buy a few sets just to get additional remotes (so it wasn't cheap anymore). Worst of all, I had a neighbor with the exact same device (same code) so every now and then, he used to turn the light off in my room, at the end I just scraped the idea.

Even my wife, who hates anything that has to do with electrical gadgets loves this product.
