Update: Almost another year, and it's still working great. Maybe I got lucky, but I have had no problems with it.

1) While the refrigerator is noisier than my old one, the manual does state that it will be a little louder. The only time I hear it is in the morning or late evening when it's quiet in the house, otherwise, I don't even notice it.

2) I still very rarely use the hot water.

3) I still think it's great with lots of room and have had no cooling issues.

4) I still think filters are way over priced :-)

Update: After about 1 year later, I'm still loving the fridge. It's been working great and I've had no problems since the initial repair for the USB. (Maybe it's time I updated the pictures on it again). The filter cost is way outrageous (but so is every other filter for refrigerators, it's kind of like ink for printers).

I love the fridge. It's roomy, bright and easy to get to everything. I've had it for two months so far.

Pros:
Easy access to most everything.
Well lit
Nice gadgety front touch screen
GE service was easy to contact and easy to get a repairman out there. (see below about the repair)
The water/ice taste great (my old refrigerator never had good tasting water or ice)
All around, it's a great product and keeps a stable temperature.

Cons:
Can't see the temperature in freezer and fridge unless you act like you're going to change the temperature on the display panel, then it will show the current temperature. I guess they figured it will be at what you set it.

I had a repairman out within two days of getting the fridge because the USB port did not work. (I'm a gadget freak and that's the first thing I tried).

Only had it a week, but so far, very pleased with it. Love the little touchscreen, that shows in ounces how much water is being delivered. Lots of space inside, and the 'hidden' ice maker provides a lot more space in the main compartment. It is quite deep, so be aware that this is going to poke out a lot further than your countertops, but we have a family of five so bigger is better.

I have had nothing but problems with this refrigerator. To begin, it makes a number of very loud noises. Most of them are limited in duration, so not a big deal. But the compressor runs constantly and is VERY loud. It measures at 63 decibels up close and 55 decibels from 15 feet away. That's loud! A GE technician came to service it and installed a noise damper, which GE apparently created for this refrigerator due to noise complaints (shows you had bad this problem is). After installing the damper, the noise actually got worse -- its now a constant really high pitched whistling sound. But even worse, the cooling system has now stopped working. All of my food has spoiled in the refrigerator and the freezer. Not only can I not reach customer support by phone, but I cannot get a tech out to my house for 3 days by booking online. Either way, GE won't reimburse for food spoilage, so I'm out of luck in that regard (probably around $500 worth of food). This is really a giant, expensive, piece of junk.

UPDATE: I noticed that GE did not post this review on its Website. I used to think they were an ethical company. Shame on them for completely trying to defraud consumers and not posting negative reviews.

UPDATE: The tech came out and cannot figure out what's wrong. He changed the motherboard, to no avail. He then checked the sealed refrigeration system for leaks and found no problems. After 1.5 hours he said he cannot figure out the problem and the only thing he can think of is try try yet another motherboard, which he doesn't have on hand. He said he has to order it and won't be back for another week. This piece of junk is going back! Hopefully I can have a brand new (NOT GE) refrigerator well before he can make his way back to aimlessly troubleshoot.

PROS:

1. Innovative FEATURES

2. Nice design

3. LOTS of room

CONS:

1. (Major) Horrible refrigerant cooling system design, function, durability and reliability(the WHOLE point of a fridge to begin with)

2. (Major) Very loud, disturbing noises after a few months

3. Fridge is not made to last - would be surprised if they lasted more than a year. Mine lasted 4 months with light use, and being babied.

3. (Major) GE Customer Service - will take a miracle to get them to do anything and even to respond to calls.

4. (Minor) Doors should lay flush against the fridge cabinet, when open, to easily remove drawers for cleaning.

5. (Minor) No feature for auto fill, convenient for multi-tasking when cooking.

6. (Minor) Hot water dispenser only holds about 9 oz of hot water. This feature is kind of a waste and unnecessary, I still use my tea pot.

REVIEW

My husband and I bought the GE CFE29TSDSS, Cafe refrigerator with hot water dispenser in May 2013. We have paid for it dearly.

When it was first installed this fridge ran wonderfully, was quiet, and a joy to have. We loved all of the "features".

Four months later, the fridge started to make grinding noises nearly 24-7, as well as sounding like an airplane was taking off in our kitchen. We called GE to have a tech come out and look at it.

The next day we received a box from GE that contained parts for the repair. GE did NOT communicate with me that they were doing this. They also failed to inform their OWN technician they were doing so. When he arrived, he was very apologetic, but informed us that he was not going to be able to fix our fridge for another week.
