Part of the GE Choice Alert Wireless Alarm System
The GE 45136 Alarm Siren is part of the GE Choice Alert Wireless Alarm System line of products. Cost-effective and easy to install, Choice Alert components offer wireless operation, multi-zone coverage, home and away settings, all-weather function, and expandability for complete home protection.

Wireless Control Center for Device Monitoring
The entire Choice Alert Security System is designed around the Wireless Control Center, the system's hub. The Control Center monitors every sensor that is wirelessly connected to it. As many as four sensors can be programmed in each of four zones, giving you the security of up to 16 sensors to guard your entire home.

The Wireless Control Center allows you to secure your system with a custom four-digit code that can be changed at any time. Plus, the center lets you control many system features. For example, you can select 'Home' mode for an instant alarm and 'Away' mode for a delayed alarm. In addition to the armed alarm system, the Control Center also offers a visible and audible Zone Notification alert system (with a choice of continuous alert or single chime mode) and a dedicated alert zone (Zone 4). The center wirelessly transmits and receives signals up to 150 feet.

Additionally, the Wireless Control Center features a low-battery indicator that will alert you when battery power is low in a specific zone, so you'll know exactly when to replace the batteries in every one of your components.

Combine Components for Total Home Coverage
To complement the Alarm Siren, there are several components available for use with the Wireless Control Center, including a door/window sensor, motion detector, water leak sensor, signal repeater (for enhanced wireless range), garage door sensor, and Silent Alert LED indicator. Just bought the system using the 45142 Wireless Alarm System Control Center, 45132 Motion Sensor, 45131 Wireless Door/Window Sensors, 45144 GE Keychain Transmitter Remote and 45136 Choice-Alert Wireless Alarm Siren. The system performed OK but there were a few minor issues that I would like to share. In reading the reviews, I read that battery replacement was a problem considering the Door/Window sensors are installed with double sided tape. This prompted me to use 'velcro tape' to mount these sensors instead of the enclosed double sided tape. This will permit easy removal enabling the battery replacement without the problem of tearing the double sided tape off the door. You will also find there is a learning curve to the removal of the back of the Door/Window Sensors, it is difficult. Lastly, I found the Door/Window Sensor needed an adapter (which I made) when attaching to the door. This is needed due to the door gap and/or location of the magnet on the door jam. This adapter is helpful in maintaining the required 1/2 inch or less gap. The adapter should be the size of the Door/Window Sensor plus an extra 1/2 inch in width. The adapter attaches to the top of the door, (using the double sided tape)so that it bridges over the gap from the door jam. You then attach the Door/Window Sensor to the adapter as close to the magnet as possible. Keep in mind, use the 'velcro' when attaching the Door/Window Sensor to the adapter. I found this to be a good solution the the battery replacement problem.
Since the 45142 Control Center has no provision for wall mounting, use the 'Velcro tape" here as well.

If you own the GE alarm system this product is a must have. It is easy to use and makes enter/exit much faster instead of fumbling with codes to activate the alarm. I have had no problems with it except it stopped working at one point and I had to re-learn it to the primary alarm device but the remote went right back to its job. You must have the choice alert system to use this remote.
I am pleased with the alarm system itself however, I understand there are newer products on the market that will call your cell phone if the alarm is activated. I ended up spending about 150.00 for the full setup including doors, garage, water sensor, extended siren and remotes. I returned the window accessory because for the price of one window alarm to signal the unit, you can buy two alarms that self-activate per window for almost half the price. I use air conditioners in the summer and it seemed like a hassel to have to disarm so many areas to use a air conditioner. The remote to this unit keeps me conditioned to arm it on a regular basis but definitely shop around before making a decision to invest in this type of alarm. Know if you need windows open and how you will have to adjust your alarm system to your needs. I wish I had waited and bought the cell phone activated alarms but am still happy with GE. It does not contact police but it makes enough noise to scare anyone away.

The Good:

Once you get passed the vague manual, and tedious set up, the device is fairly simplistic to operate: functioning like any other alarm system.

The number of sensors that can bee added per sector, and the total number of sectors, is more than sufficient for even a large home, and provides ample flexibility to mix and match sensor types.

The alarm function is loud enough that it can be heard throughout the house, and can be heard clearly on the street: the neighbors would know if your alarm had been triggered, this is of course not to say that they would act on that knowledge.

The constant monitor zone is ideal for people with small children who like to leave their rooms and wander in the middle of the night. As soon as the door is open, the alert sounds and is loud enough that it will wake a heavy sleeper (me), but not so loud that it will wake up the entire house.

The Bad:

The range is fairly limited, which makes placement of the unit difficult. It was purchased to alert my wife and I of when our children left their rooms, so that we did not end up with roaming children in the middle of the night. If you have a larger square footage, you will have to move the unit as close to the sensor as possible. If you plan to have the unit in a central place in your home, to act as an actual alarm system, then you will have no issues.

Overall, and for the price, this is a very versatile product that can serve a variety of functions. I am more than satisfied with its performance and value.

CONS:

1) The sensor "DOES NOT" transmit alerts wirelessly to the Choice Alert Wireless Control Center within a range of 150 feet. It is more like 20 or 30 feet instead.

2) The sensor itself is a problem when you need to change the battery. Unless there is some secret way of changing the battery the only other way is to practically destroy the whole case trying to get the thing open to get at the dead battery. Yikes!

SUMMARY:

This device would have been a really nice security system if it had only did what it advertised it was suppose to do. The concept is great and is what customers are looking for. Unfortunately, I had to return mine because I needed it to go the range of 150 feet. I was very disappointed because it did work but only within 20-30 feet distance. I do not have a built-in garage, so if you do this may work great for you. The sensors are a bummer as well. They (the company that makes this product) needs to do something about the horrible sensors, you can't get them to open to change the batteries. What good is it if you have to buy new sensors each time and can't reuse the ones you already have. Sorry but the sensors are a defect - hope the company will fix this problem. I read what other reviewers wrote and they warned of these exact problems and they were absolutely correct on this one. Disappointed customer, had to return, buy at your own risk.

Similar to all the other components of the GE choice alert system, they are ok but could be improved. Don't rely to much on the instructions as it will have more information about other accessories rather than what this thing actually does. Linking is easy (make sure other transmitters in the home don't emit signal during this process) The product works fine, but as many of these ideas are made overseas, but though up over here - what you get is a product that even GE probably isn't entirely sure about. Here are a few things about it: The armed LED only lights when this unit sounds (not when home system is armed), only one of the two siren holes is actually an sound emitter, the antenna is a bit tricky to install as it is not evident where it should go in the instructions (it goes in the bottom and must push the short end hard into unit - it hangs down), the power connection to the unit is in the way of the off switch, the tiny door for this compartment is finicky to replace and you should tape the 9V battery to ensure connection (in all GE C.A. products with a 9v). However, as these are discontinued, and want to add to a compatible system it is ok for the low price.
