Date/Time Feature Annoying

This is a decent microwave, but I don't understand why it needs to know the month, day, and year. Every time the power goes out or I have to unplug the microwave it re-sets the clock. When I turn it back on it won't let me use it until I enter the time, month, day, and year, which involves pressing a long series of buttons, and if you get anything wrong, or forget to enter "AM" or "PM" it kicks you out and forces you to go through the whole process again. Does it really need to know what month it is to cook my food?

Bought this in 2019. 14mo later, which is 2 mo outside the warranty period, the door handle broke where the top part connects to the door. Unit has not been abused. Handle connection appears to be thin, light-weight plastic and just snapped where the handle connects to the door. Should be metal or stronger material, as this is always going to be a higher stress part.

This over-range microwave is the 4th GE over-range unit I have purchased. Each one lasts 5 years and then fails completely. The top mounting bolt pattern seems to change every few years, so new mounting holes had to be re-drilled for each oven. Fortunately the bottom-rear wall mounting plate has remained the same over all 4 units. Regardless of the power rating, this oven heats more slowly than most countertop microwave ovens. Compared to my last GE unit, this model included a change from 2 counter lights to one light, which was a downgrade in visibility and utility. The stainless finish of the ovens all look nice and match my GE gas range, but don't expect any longer life than 5 years, don't expect the most powerful microwave performance, and don't expect too much light on your stovetop work area. Don't bother calling 1-800-GE-CARES because they don't.

I love the stainless steel look no matter if the designers say it's passe' I still love it and always will. I love the post industrial look of stainless steel. I love the commercial kitchen vibe it brings on so forcefully. This GE JVM3162RJSS 30" microwave is a nice unit. This microwave is not powerful enough for serious microwave cooks. My big fat brother can cook things in the microwave that I would not have dreamt possible. He says the keys to great microwave cooking is control, precision, time, moisture management and power. This microwave is lacking in the power department.

Far from a toy this microwave will do most of the chores you ask of it amazingly well. Just be mindful that this microwave is not a serious microwave cooks device of choice. This microwave does ultility work well. You want something reheated fine. You want a boil in bag meal zapped you are good to go. You have that hankering for microwave popcorn feel free. This microwave has you covered for all your most common microwave cooking tasks. For me this microwave is perfect. I just need to reheat some shimp fried rice from last night or a piece of pizza in the fridge my brother forgot to eat. (No he's nice he actually saves pizza for me!)

Anyway for my common needs this microwave works and it looks good in my remodeled kitchen which is still under construction.

If everything in my house wore out every 3 years, I would have a full time job just fixing things. Americans don't mind everything being put into dumps. My prior microwave lasted 3 years. The one before lasted 19 years. My ovens and stove are over 40. My washer and dryer are 33 and 23 years old. The dishwasher was over 20. These parts do need to be maintained and cleaned. Things change. I hope the world gets cleaner.
