I started by replacing the plastic collar that supports and rotates the auger. That lasted about 3 days before it broke in pieces. What a bad design and I relayed that thought to GE. Anyway I have a refrigerator that is still in good shape. I saw this and the reviews were positive so I found the cheapest price here on Amazon. I have had it working now for over 30 days and that means a lot. I should have just done this to begin with. Oh by the way, this is my last GE!!!

This is our third bucket and auger for our fridge. The first broke when our fridge was still under the extended warranty. The plastic connection used between the metal auger and metal fitting (on the refrigerator) just does not have the ability to not crack after a while in the freezer.
It does work and fits snuggly. The only reason for the 3 star is the flaw they have in the connection piece.
Sure enough our plastic piece, that connects the metal auger (sp) to the metal connecter in the freezer, is already cracking. I wish that GE would offer an option that does not use a plastic piece that when in a freezer does not have the strength and keep the integrity to work over time. Ever since we have had this freezer we have always taken our ice bucket out periodically to empty to make sure we do not have any large clumps to add a strain. We make sure that we clear out any ice chips/dust to create any lumps in the future. We also rarely use the crushed ice feature that would also put strain on it. I am pretty upset that we will be foreseeing a fourth bucket and auger.

We just sold our house and the refrigerator was to be left as part of the negotiations. The day after we signed contracts, yep you guest it, the ice bucket dispenser with many years of great service obviously took it personal (as abandonment I assume) and stopped working. All those Crown and gingers we made together came to a screeching halt. Did I panic? NO! I signed on to Amazon did a little research an ordered a new one. I ran the new one threw a dish washer cycle, installed it and the new owner is none the wiser...speaking of a Crown and ginger. Cheers!

Product as described. Fast delivery. Better price than local part store. However this is the 3rd one I've had to purchase. There is an inherent design flaw in the GE assembly and the plastic collar holding the metal auger in the back of the unit breaks where it comes into contact with the auger drive from the freezer.

This was purchased from seller: partshouse. For a nominal expedited shipping charge, I received the product within two days of order and still much cheaper than other options. The product was exactly the same as what it replaced, with the minor exception of the label on the front. This is probably because the manufacturer made a slight label change over the ten-years since I originally purchased the refrigerator. Been a couple weeks now, and iI have zero cons to report.

Replaced a seven year old ice maker that was no longer crushing ice - it would get clogged and bind. I tried rebuilding the old unit, but that didn't work. I thought about buying new knives for the crusher unit, but decided to buy this instead - I'm glad I did. Removed the old ice maker and, after cleaning, pop this new one into place - a perfect replacement for my fridge.

The item is an exact replacement for the original ice buck/auger assembly. All I had to do is pull out the existing assembly and insert the new assembly. No tools were necessary. It took about 15 seconds to replace the ice bucket. The cost of this unit was about $15 less than any other place I could find it.

This unit could be made to be easier to install into the freezer. It is difficult to match up the metal turning bar to the correct turning fork in the freezer. If not installed properly, the plastic turning bar on the unit breaks. This makes the 4th time I had to replace the turning bar unit. I replaced the whole assembly this time because the ice dispenser is used frequently and the cutters were becoming dull making the dispenser work harder. It dispenses much easier now but in about a year I will have to replace the turning bar cup with the plastic because it breaks.
