About a week ago I noticed a fairly large puddle on the floor of our kitchen, I found the tray for the ice/water dispenser on the freezer door was full of water and it was running down the door of the freezer. The water dispenser was dripping a drop of water every 1-2 seconds. I tried to get the valve to seal, by cycling the water and turning on and off the main water while cycling the water valve, but it would not ever seal completely. Sometimes it would overfill a large cup in an hour; sometimes it would not fill the same cup up in a few hours. Did a little research and found this valve was the culprit, searspartsdirect.com wanted almost $100 dollars + shipping, I was able to order this with free 2-day shipping via Amazon Prime.

Easy fix, once you have access to the back of the fridge, you need to unhook the four water lines remember where they go, (You will also get significant water leaking from the white hose that goes to the water tank in the fridge for water dispensing). There are four individual connectors to each valve, they all run to one main plug connector at the main refrigerator wiring. I found it easiest to disconnect the main plug and swap the 4 individual wiring connectors across to the new unit on the counter with the old unit removed. The valve assembly itself is only held on with one bolt, and then hooked on the side of the inner fridge. Undo the bolt and unhook the bracket and it should come right out. Put the new unit in with the wiring on it, connect the hoses to the same valve location they were removed from, plug in the main wiring connector (be sure to match wire colors if the connector can be reversed). And you should be ready to go.

GE part, took 10 minutes to swap out once the cover was off the lower back of the fridge. Stopped the drip! Easy-connect fittings - just press the 'collar' while pressing the hoses into the valve, and they come right out. Replaced p/n RIV-12AE-10. The only issue was the plastic shield between the source water fitting and the electrics. The original is slightly different. Easy to cut the new one down so it will mount or just swap with the old.
Others told me just turn off the water and do manual ice trays. Since is the first (only) part to wear out in 15 years, I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm truly glad I did. 10 minutes of time to do a simple repair after 15 years of solid use isn't bad for this GE fridge.

Seems to work fine. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I shouldn't have to replace this every 5 years like I have been doing. After about 5 years they start to slowly drip/leak which wreaks havoc on my hickory wood floors.

Obviously, the right part, it works, is much less expensive than at any of the appliance parts websites, never mind brick and mortar stores. If you have a refrigerator with a through-the-door ice and water maker, and the water works intermittently -- sometimes fine, sometimes nothing -- it could well be this part. It was for me. Swapping it in and out takes 10 minutes at most -- there are videos online and on youtube that walk you through it, though its pretty obvious

I have a GE Profile Arctica, and the water dispenser made loud noises before dispensing water for about a months...and then it finally gave up. No more filtered water from my fridge :(. I started troubleshooting and found that water wasn't coming from this unit to the tank in the fridge. I browsed online for GE water valves, and this one matched exactly as the dead one in my fridge. So I ordered it from Amazon and installed it myself. It took less 15 mins to remove the old and install the new, including cleaning up the water mess :). I had the two units next to each other and unplugged the hoses one at a time and plugged it to the same valve on the new unit. Just make sure you depress the valve lips down before unplugging and plugging the hoses in. Afterward, it worked like a charm. Btw, I took the opportunity to also vacuum all the dusts and lints collected back there over the years. Hopefully, it will continue to work for another 10 yrs.

Now my light at the water/ice receptacle is out :(. The light bulb's filament seems fine. Any idea?

I saved over $200 by repairing our fridge myself. This part retails for about $120. At $55 including shipping and for about 10 minutes worth of simple repair work, I saved $200 or more. One thing to remember, this part does not include the wiring harness, so save the old one or you will need to purchase a new one. The valve looks complicated, and I'm sure it is sophisticated. But it was simple to remove and install. DIY is the way to go if you can turn a screwdriver!

I was just a little concerned that the replacement part might not fit. I was pleasantly surprised that it not only fit but was very easy to install. The product shipped very quick as the old valve was leaking and needed replacement ASAP. I would recommend Amazon.com for the best price, fast shipping, and having just the right part for the job.

Works fine once i got the hoses connected corrected! You would think they would send some instructions for hose hook up with this product?. Yes i should have marked each hose & not assume the valve would have instructions!!
