4.0 out of 5 stars GGMM E5 just beat up my Jawbone Jambox and stole its lunch money. FANTASTIC SOUND!!
By Kelly on June 7, 2017
WOW! That's the first thing I have to say about this speaker. I am the owner of at least 5 different bluetooth speakers including 2 Jamboxes by Jawbone (which I will compare head to head with this one) and a 3 ft tall tower speaker by artsound. All are different, but this one is by far my favorite!! I got this to keep on the count top in my bathroom to listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks etc. while I get ready for work in the morning. So far I LOVE it! Here's what I love:

SOUND: This has to be the first thing I address because it's the most important thing about a speaker, and the sound of this guy is INCREDIBLE! I listen to just about everything music-wise. My biggest complaint about portable blutooth speakers is always lacking bass, or in the case of my jambox, it isn't built to handle bass and if I turn it up too loud, the speaker vibrates so much that it walks itself right off the table top. Unacceptable. My second biggest complaint about these speakers is that while most of them can play my pop and rock music decently well, NONE of them have been able to adequately play my classical music in a satisfactory manner. Classical music is a different beast when it comes to speakers and really tests their ability to tackle the richness and thickness of a full orchestra, the large climactic swells and delicate pianissimos etc. I had pretty much given up hope that any portable speaker would ever be able to play my classical music well until this came along and knocked my socks off!! I listened to Beethoven's 9th symphony the other day while I was in the jetted tub (TMI?) and never felt disappointed!
Check out my video to get a taste of how it stacks up to my jambox playing a cello piece. You guys, the sound is unreal for a speaker of this size! I LOVE being able to adjust the bass and treble easily from the dials on top mid listen to find the optimal balance for whatever I'm listening to, without having to enter the app and mess with settings.

SIZE/STYLE: I really love the size/shape of this speaker. I think it's perfectly designed for optimum sound in a compact frame. Yes, it's larger than my Jambox, but it's slimmer, making it easy to pack, carry around and use. Mostly I keep it in the same place. It's also very well designed and is pretty sleek and sexy as speakers go! I think the removable leather strap is a nice touch. The buttons are very easy to access to do whatever you want really quickly.

EASY TO USE: If you just want to connect via blutooth and listen to music right out of the box it couldn't be easier. Setting up the WiFi and Alexa takes downloading the app and a few minutes of your time but it isn't hard and the app is pretty use friendly which I always appreciate. The manual it comes with is clear and easy to follow. Once you've connected via blutooth it remembers your device and connects immediately when you turn it on which I love. My old jambox forgets almost every time I turn it off.

FEATURES: This little speaker is PACKED with features. There is no limit to the amount of ways to can access and play your content. Bluetooth works great but you can connect via airplay as well as WiFi. You can take and make calls. You can connect multiple speakers to one device for a full home, multi-room stereo experience (which I completely intend to do). You can boss Alexa around with the press of a button and make her do your bidding. Check out my video for a sample of that. In short, this speaker will do just about everything except fold your laundry, and even then, it makes for excellent company while you do it yourself! I also love that it powers down after 30 minutes if nothing is playing. That really helps save battery life when I forget or suddenly have to leave the room and don't come back. It has an auxiliary in port on the back which is great. I will definitely use this when giving presentations or watching movies to bypass the crappy built in speaker on my projector.

BATTERY LIFE: This speaker lasts forever on a charge!!! I've been using it for a week and haven't needed to recharge it yet. This makes me very, very happy.

There are only a few things I don't like about this speaker. I really debated taking off a star because it is so awesome but I almost NEVER give 5 stars to anything, so let's call this 4.5. Here's what I found less than perfect:

WiFi SETUP/CONNECTION: The first time I tried to set up WiFi I had trouble doing it. Following the steps in the manual, voice prompts on the speaker and instructions on the app, it asks you at one point to push a button on the back of the speaker for 1 second to make it search for your WiFi network. Every time I did this the speaker would tell me it was restoring to factory default. I tried it 5 times and gave up. I came back the next day and tried again and had no problems! It set up in no time! I don't know what the deal was that first time around, but I was pretty frustrated. Also, I had assumed once I set up the WiFi network connection once that the speaker would remember it and I wouldn't have to set it up every time. Wrong. If you change modes or turn it off, you gotta go back in the app and connect the speaker again and login to Alexa through your Amazon account. It only takes 30 seconds but honestly it's annoying enough that I find it turns me off to using that feature. Not a huge deal for me as I mainly just keep it in blutooth mode, but that might be a bigger deal for some.

INCORRECT PRONUNCIATION: This is a VERY minor quibble, but it always lessens the experience a little when the voice given to the speaker isn't programmed to correctly pronounce words like "router", which it called "rooter".

That's about it folks! This speaker is really, REALLY incredible and DEFINITELY worth the price in my opinion! I have loved using it and I know you will too! Don't pay more for a brand name just 'cause! Hope this helps.

NOTE ABOUT VIDEO: The first clip is of me using Alexa in WiFi mode. The second is of my jambox playing a piece of music, then there's a clip of this speaker playing the same music at the same volume level for comparison. The last clip is of this speaker playing a little U2, just for variety. This isn't even close to top volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound for its size, worked down to 40Hz
By tinman on May 17, 2019
    Update 6/2:
I got access to an APx555B audio analyzer and ran some test tone through it. With this test, the speaker is confirm to able to go down to 40Hz not 50Hz as initially reported. The overall spectra is pretty well behave. The E5 had issue on the 40Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 16kHz, 18kHz, 19kHz, 20kHz. On these frequencies, there were spikes on frequency bands that are not part of the harmonics.

    Update 5/18:
The volume control under bluetooth is not great. Under a Surface Pro and Pixel 3, there is little granularity on volume up/down. On the Surface Pro, volume could not be control at all. On the Pixel 3, the volume only changed from the 0 to ~30% mark, from ~30% on, no volume change was notice. With this, the volume had to adjust by manually pressing the volume up/down button on the E5.

    Original:
This speaker was bought as a curiosity piece. The GGMM M4 had a very good base response, but not that great on the highs. The Oontz 3XL Ultra had great highs (actually too bright for me) but had a disappointing bass (very muddy). The GGMM E5 should be somewhere in between these two.

The M4 is too big to bring to work. The Oontz would probably not survive as the radiator bass on the side of the speaker, kind of fragile in my opinion. The Anker SoundCore 2 is decent, but not great. The E5 is basically the correct size.

The first E5 arrived with the metal hinge for the leather strap broken off. The second one arrived with the metal hinge in place, but power up issue. Apparently the battery was totally drain. Only after letting the E5 charged for greater than 1Hr then the E5 power up. The box also broke open, kind of making me think the box was tampered with.

For comparison, a GGMM M4 was used without the bass boost. One Oontz 3XL Ultra was used. All three speakers had the audio set to AUX in. The audio was a combination of test tones and music in FLAC format. Although the E5 has a manual bass and treble boost, for fairness, they are set to "0", the flat response.

    PRO:
    - The bass is very impressive for its size. It's not as strong as the M4, but definitely better than the Oontz
    - Bass sound solid, not muddy at all
    - A +1 tick on the bass matched the M4 bass, with the +2 tick, it matched the M4 with bass boost
    - Treble is not too bright
    - Manual adjustment of the bass and treble

    CON:
    - With the treble set to "0", it was not as good as the M4 or the Oontz. Cranking the treble to +1 tick match the M4 and +2 tick match the Oontz
    - Using a 50Hz tone, the E5 did not show any response on the FFT test(tested this with SpecScope Pro on Android). The M4 and Oontz had a response at the 50Hz
    - At 60Hz, the E5 had a response on the FFT, but not as pronounce as the M4 or Oontz

Subjectively, the E5 sounded more metallic on the bass. On the M4, the bass had a warm feel while the E5 sound like it was post process to have metal quality to the percussion. For the mids, something just feels off. Listening to songs with lots of mid (male voice, bass guitars, etc) it felt the something was cut from the sound. Switching over to the Oontz or M4, those mids were present.

A quick test using bluetooth show it could be connected to a Pixel 3 and can output sound through bluetooth. As this speaker is primary intended for music, the Alexa and wifi was not tested.

As other reviewers has mentioned, the leather strap is nice, but it's pretty much useless. With it connected, the brown color of the strap looks out of place against the black color of the E5. The length of the strap is also weird. It's not long enough to really be useful, but not too short that it would hinder the speaker.

(2,4 GHz-Netz)

    Zum Gerät selbst:

Es fehlt ihm etwas an Klangvolumen vom Gehäuse her.

    https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01GH1296I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Extrem schlecht ist der Stereomodus dokumentiert, nämlich gar nicht!!

Wenn beide Geräte installiert sind, muss man per Drag und Drop in der Geräteliste der App ein Gerät in das andere ziehen. Da muss man erst einmal darauf kommen :-((

GGMM immer wieder gerne...
