So, I only had to buy another one of these and a better designed BestDealUSA 3"LCD viewfinder for Canon 5D Mark II which slides on the eyepiece, no glue involved. Whew! I can't imagine how much it would have cost to replace my Canon's LCD...
BTW for newbie Canonites like me, to mount this unit, the stock eyepiece cover slides up, this slides down in its place, and the stock eyepiece cover slides down on this unit.
As I waited for my trusty Amazon Prime order to be delivered I decided to go back and read some of the other reviews. I was surprised when I saw someone mention it covered the viewfinder glass too. I said "damn, hope it won't feel and look awkward on the back of the screen," and immediately had a bit of buyer's remorse. Plain and simple I just didn't want a flimsy and floppy little overhang of a screen protector on my camera that costed me an arm and a leg.
The product finally came in. Very well packaged I must add. I slid the protector on and that's pretty much all she wrote. I was immediately impressed. No play whatsoever and the build quality seriously feels like a Canon original. Someone here mentioned the visibility of the LCD screen could've been a hairline adjusted, but I don't have that problem at all. I supposed if you looked at the LCD at eye level without any tilt in the camera then you would have this problem, but I usually tilt the camera no more than 80 degrees to playback my pictures anyway. But that's just being nit-picky so I wouldn't even worry about not being able to see your whole LCD screen, at all. As for glare, I haven't had the chance to try it out outside under harsh sunlight, but I'm sure it's nothing the other hand couldn't take care of (that's what she said).
I came from a much more less expensive Nikon D90, and even that came with a an original Nikon screen protector that I really liked. This GGS III screen protector feels like it should've been on my 5D Mark II to begin with! Once again, OEM quality.
Don't bother with any other protectors.
Frankly, this screen protector is the first screen protector I have reviewed ever. So here we go:
Size: Almost perfect! If the edge of the protector was just a little thinner (I'm talking about just a hairline thinner) it would've been perfect. I can still see a very very tiny part of the blue signs on the 5dMii body being covered when looking straight on. But as for the LCD, I can see everything just fine. Very glossy.
Design: Color matches so well that I almost think this is made by Cannon. The protector also not only protects the LCD, it protects the viewfinder as well. The duo protection design is ingenious. With this design, you first remove the eyepiece and slide the protector through there smoothly, (therefore it avoids any possible misalignments) and put the eyepiece back in after the LCD goes through. They just fit perfectly together as if it is design by Canon.
Functionality: Bright and clear, both the LCD and the EYEPIECE. Though I have not taken it out on the field yet, I assume it might cause some glare problems due to the nature of the surface (glossy) as a glossy MACBook would, which is expected.
Price: Other than that, I think this piece is great for such low price. I can't speak for the higher end similar products price wise, but I'm convinced it is going to be extremely difficult to surpass such well design product, even with twice the price.
