GIGABYTE 3D Power (patent pending)
GIGABYTE X79 series motherboards are the first to take advantage of the exclusive GIGABYTE 3D Power, an all new hardware and software-based Digital Power Engine for both the PWM and Memory that delivers unprecedented power delivery control.

All New Digital Power Control for the CPU and Memory
Utilizing a brand new Digital PWM controller, GIGABYTE's 3D Power features precise Auto Voltage Compensation to deliver a steady flow of power to the CPU and memory no matter the loading. This all new, all digital power system provides enthusiast users with exceptional control over the overclocking potential of their GIGABYTE X79 motherboard. GIGABYTE is the first in the industry to utilize digital memory controllers for not only the Memory, but VTT and VSA, for real-time monitoring and adjusting. Digital memory control allows users to monitor and record DDR power and current in real-time while gaming, overclocking or at idle. Users can also set OVP (Over Voltage Protection) to safeguard your memory, adjust memory Load-line Calibration to fix memory vdrooping for a quicker response time and adjust memory PWM frequency on-the-fly.

GIGABYTE 3D Power(patent pending) Utility
Users can now enjoy a fully interactive 3D utility that facilitates adjustment of the 3 dimensions that control the power delivery to your CPU and Memory: Voltage, Phase and Frequency. These parameters are crucial to how the digital PWM supplies power to critical areas of the motherboard and can help users quickly obtain the highest, most stable overclock.

3D Power: Voltage Control
Voltage parameters can be modified within 3D Power, including load line calibration the of CPU. By adjusting load line calibration, Vdrooping can be avoided, maintaining optimal voltages levels despite increasing current levels. OVP (over voltage protection) can also be adjusted to change default protection range of the CPU, memory controller, VTT and system memory.

3D Power: Phase Control
Users can calibrate OCP (Over Current Protection) for the CPU, integrated memory controller and system memory power levels. This allows the Phase control to deliver even more power to the system when needed.

3D Power: Frequency Control
GIGABYTE's digital PWM allows for adjustable frequency control via the International Rectifier (IR3567) PWM controller. 3D Power frequency control allows users to change the PWM controller frequency so that the CPU VRM can adjust power delivery speeds more quickly. Users can also adjust the PWM spectrum or maximum and minimum overall frequencies

GIGABYTE 3D BIOS(patent pending)
The revolutionary GIGABYTE 3D BIOS application is based on our new GIGABYTE UEFI DualBIOSTM technology and is available to consumers in two new exclusive modes of interaction never before seen in a BIOS environment. GIGABYTE has re-drawn the traditional BIOS experience providing mainstream and enthusiast users with a choice of unique and powerful graphical interfaces.

UEFI DualBIOSTM Technology
At the heart of this exciting 3D BIOS technology is a pair of 8MB physical BIOS ROMs containing GIGABYTE's exclusive in-house designed UEFI BIOS technology. Board offers two fully independent 16X PCI-E lanes for maximum 2-card SLI performance.

There was/is a possible manufacturer BIOS issue/recall associated with this board so you should check your BIOS revision immediately once you receive it and update as necessary. Apparently any BIOS revision below F7 is suspect and using the board with a bad BIOS revision could result in permanent damage to your motherboard. Just received one of these last month with the F3 BIOS revision, so don't just assume you'll receive one with the latest firware. Want more details on the BIOS issue, just do some online searches and you'll find plenty...

So I am well aware this motherboard had a VERY rough start anywhere from stability issues to bios problems to just flat out failing, but naturally a company like Gigabyte is not going to let this continue....... So for the REV.1.1 review the board comes equipped with the F16 bios that has support for the newest ivy-bridge E cpu.

The board has allot to offer for not a whole lot of money, I consider this to be a budget X79 board even though its still $200+ its still allot cheaper than most and offers the bare minimum specs like 4 ram slots, 4 pci-E slots 2@x16 and 2@x8, decent audio, 10 sata ports 4 of which are sata2 and the rest sata3, 5 fan headers 2 of which are 4 pins cpu headers, 1 four pin sys fan and 2 three pin sys fan, and also a legacy pci slot.

The audio this is something important to me though not important enough to buy a sound card, the audio is very good not the best but good. Its about the equivalent of a $70 sound card so at a low end Xonar but for gaming that's all you need along with an external DAC for a little amplified sound my pair of Corsair Vengeance 2100's compliment the audio very well.

Now for the bios! The 3D bios is no where to be found it shows it on the box but its not actually in the board, so I can only assume and keep in mind this is an Assumption not a verified fact. This could be the reason behind some of the older bios issues but again that is not a verified fact, only an assumption, so only the advanced mode seems to be present which is fine since for some reason I can't handle over simplified information......?

What's in the box? Well it come with the motherboard of course, a 4-way, 3-way, 2-way sli bridge, and a 2-way crossfire bridge, 4 sata connectors, manual with driver disk, and an I/O shield.

There are plenty of forums online reporting this problem and there doesn't seem to be a clear fix anywhere. Anywhere from 10-50% of the time, it won't return from sleep (S3) or reboot properly (Windows 8 64-bit). Requires turning off the power supply, pressing the power button to empty the capacitors, turning on the power supply and starting it up again. It's frustrating. It's all I have for now, so I'm dealing with it, but as soon as I can, I'll be getting a different MOBO from a different company.

I researched this and I am please with its performance. I have an intel i7 CPU and 32 gig memory and use a top end Gigabyte graphic card. My system is blazing fast. I also used a very large cooling fan tower on the CPU so this makes the room in the case tight. The instruction where easy to follow if you are familiar with the parts. Just take your time and look up anything that is questionable, no guessing. Computer companies give you the least amount of information as possible, not sure why, but it is in 20 different languages just to make sure. Good Luck

Pros: I had to search up some detailed pictures of it because it doesn't specify which lanes are 16x. It's the 1st PciE and the 3rd... I was planning on getting two three slot 570s but no motherboard left me an empty cooling spot for the top. This one is the ONLY x79 that does!!!! (from what I've seen so far)

I have to say, great job gigabyte, you just made me sa loyal customer.

Cons: I don't have it yet...

Other Thoughts: I'm amazed that someone finally thought about giving space between the x16 lanes... We'll see how it goes with a 3930k and 16GB of DDR3.

The first motherboard I received from Amazon was dead on arrival....would not run at all. But Amazon was fantastic and exchanged it quickly for a working board. The new motherboard is working well with my new Core i7-3820 processor in the 2011 socket, along with the 16G DDR3-2133 memory pair that I bought from NewEgg. I love the new USB 3.0...it's significantly faster than USB 2.0 (maybe 3x, not the 10x that USB 3.0 advertises). The motherboard has been running non-stop for 30 days now and seems pretty stable for a version 1.0 motherboard. I will be reluctant to buy a Gigabyte motherboard in the future; however, because this is the 2nd time I've bought a Gigabyte motherboard that had problems upon arrival. Gigabyte boards seem to have more features than Intel boards, but I'll probably go with Intel in the future because they seem like they are better tested and more dependable.

this board is for speed tuners, it has a lot of tweaking options. That I'll never use I really don't over clock processors.
One drawback to this board the network interface is custom.. so you'll have to install Gigabytes drivers to get the
network interface to work.

that's a real negative for me loose the install cd that came with the motherboard good luck getting the network interface up.
running it with windows 7.. I don't know how it works with windows 8 or linux.
