Edit: I received the replacement today and one of the backplate retention screws had come loose and was laying in the bottom of the box. At first I thought it was missing one from the back, but this screw is not like those on the backside and goes through the front of the board. I had to look at the one it is replacing to figure it out. Apparently they don't have very good QC at Gigabyte these days, and their tech/customer/RMA support is very bad. Just go to their facebook page to see for yourself. Also, I just noticed that there actually IS a central mobo standoff screw hole, but you must first remove the top M.2 slot cover to be able to get to it. I hope that helps anyone else who may be wondering why there appears to be no hole for the central mobo mount screw. It's just hidden under that top M.2 slot. If you are reading this and thinking of buying the Gaming 9, there are a few things you should know: They do not ship it in a sealed box. It can be opened and used but you'd never know. They also do not ship it in an anti-static bag, which is ridiculous. I would also recommend NOT using their bloatware package for driver/software downloads bc it seems to interfere with other programs. Mostly it affects games (framerates went way up after uninstalling it, and I have an evga 1080ti SC Black so framerates should never be an issue at 1080p 144 hz or even 4k at 60hz) but ITBM 3.0 will not install AT ALL on the first board and I think it may be bc I had their bloatware installed. It still wont install even after removing their bloatware package though, so it could still be a windows install issue or the mobo itself. Now, I just have to remove the old board and try the new one. TBH, I'm really regretting going with this board, but amazon has been so great about replacing it and even compensating us for all the problems with shipping and the product itself that I'd feel bad returning it. However, if the board doesn't work, I will have no choice but to return it and go with another brand: EVGA or Asus.
$40 Rebate receive!. yah!
Its been since 09-7 since I submitted my review for a $40 rebate.
I yet have not received this rebate. Update 12-4-17 $40 rebate received yah!
Still no bios updates since sept. Large fan cpu control constant spin up / down problem has not been addressed.

Noctua d15 heatsink -- yes it runs very cool without water cooling. 34-40deg C!! This heatsink is GARGANTUAN
Corsair Vengeance 32 GB 2666 MHz
Finally retired my old x58 Intel setup 7 year run. This is light years ahead of that system and you can feel the punch of modern technology. I hope to get 7 years or better from this build :)
Much less RGB light show than the auroras of course. And that’s a good thing I want the engineering poured into performance and quality not a circus show motherboard. The board itself has the spirit in between gamer bling and a professional no frills board. More leaning to the professional side I would say. Solid performer and I don’t expect any issues to come as long as Gigabyte supports their product with bios updates as needed.
Wishes / Neutral
I really wish I could have seen the UD4 EX AND UD4 PRO lineup I have seen tidbits about. Either gigabyte scrapped these or they are not out yet.
The I/O shield plate is extremely generic and could have used some touch being less flimsy and with some nice color coding touch. Mobo has thunderbolt port header to future proof in some USB C ports however a physical single USB C on the back I/O area would have been nice. No back to bios push button on back I/O area.
CPU fan control like another reviewer mentioned is an issue right now. Setting the thresholds in bios does not follow its profile in windows os. During menial tasks you can hear the cpu fans constantly whine up and down there is no sustained constant regulated speed. Fan control app for windows does not function nor gigabytes siv app. Gigabyte please address and fix!
Being that the cpu temperature can change from 30deg c to 70 and back to 30 in the matter of 3 seconds flat under variable loads is what I believe is the cause of the cpu and opt cpu fan control swing causing an extremely annoying up and down wind up noise. Please redesign this and at least allow a work around where we could just set it to ONE FIXED RPM rate without this swing junk. Even on manual I am unable to do this is our temp # 5 is hard locked to max rpm. This will still cause the swinging. Please just allow us to set it to a fixed fan speed and it would also be nice to be as a text interface vs a graphical one.
Update: Workaround, using one fan vs the 2 on the d15 noctua plugged into the cpu opt header. The bios allows to set the control use temp input to system vs the cpu.. BUT ONLY FOR THE CPU OPT and not the CPU port!. come on Gigabyte give us control! This allowed me to set one cpu fan to a constant non swinging speed which for me keeps everything under 40 deg c no matter the load.
I miss the days of plain green very thick motherboards from the 90s and maybe even the early 2000s. They seemed to have cut through the BS and did what they were supposed to do; perform like a refined efficient instrument. I do wish the bios had a "CLASSIC" mode. I do prefer a plain text streamlined bios of this new graphical bloat trend that seems to be going on now.
Questionable on where it was made. The PCB says "made in china”. I don’t know if just the blank circuit board was made there or the entire finished product with loaded components was. I thought it was understood that Taiwan was where Gigabyte made their motherboards however now that seems not to be the case. Need clarification. And yes to me it matters. Taiwan quality has been seen as superior to me though experience, observation and knowledge.
