Somehow, i though I had a battery option. It does not. I was really bummed when it came and I couldn't charge it up and use it totally without wires. After checking the specs, it is obvious that it doesn't but just keep in mind that the wireless is all about connecting to a device, not for power.
Another problem I have is that it's not quite loud enough to be heard over a running shower or in another room. Just a little more volume would be nice.
The Bluetooth range on this device is quite poor. It works fine if I use it with my phone (which is on the other side of a wall, but within a few feet) but I can't reliably use it with my Mac Mini, which is maybe 25 - 30 feet away. I know Bluetooth isn't intended for ranges of more than a few feet, but it often does work over longer-than-advertised distances and I was hoping in this case that it would.
And finally, because most of what I listen to is talk (NPR, podcasts, etc.) instead of music, the bass response actually degrades the intelligibility of the voice. It's great to have that extra boost in the low end for music (even though other reviewers have complained that it's not enough, it sounds good to me) but it tends to give a muffled quality to the spoken word. There is an opening in the back which serves to enhance the bass; plugging this opening with a sponge, cloth, etc. actually cuts a lot of bass and improves the sound quality considerably for talk radio/podcasts.
On the whole I'm pretty impressed with the product, especially given how inexpensive it is.
The range indoors is at least 42' (length of my house) through 4 walls with no dropouts if I don't move it around.
It's well made as far as fit and finish go. I haven't opened it up to see any more. There's plenty of volume on songs recorded at normal levels. The mid range and treble are clean and the bass, down to about 160 Hz, is pretty good with some fairly solid punch on Techno Bass songs. As with any speaker of this size, if you want higher output on lower bass you'll need Equalizer FX or a similar app. Of course, it won't be as clean as the upper range.
You can adjust the volume on the speaker when it's playing, but it doesn't seem to adjust if it's only paired and connected; it has to be playing. I like to turn the volume all the way up on the speaker and control it from the phone. But, every time you turn the speaker on the volume seems to default to very low and I have to play something and set the volumes each time before I can walk away. This is the only annoyance I can think of.
It doesn't connect to my phone unless I tell the phone to do it in Settings, but it is always paired. Other blue tooth things I have connect automatically, but this doesn't bother me.
For performance and build quality, I can't see any other speaker in this price range and size performing any better. At under 50 bucks it's a winner.
After reading some other reviews I'd like to add a couple more comments. My play/pause button didn't have a sticker on it explaining a special way to use it, and it works normally (push to play, push to pause). Maybe some people have an earlier model. Also, I haven't tested the volume outdoors, but inside I can't have it at full volume if I want to talk normally to someone. I'd have to turn it down. So, while the sound won't fill a concert hall, it still get fairly loud (or, at least, mine does).

Great and clear sound for such a small size!
Definitely worth the price, I've had mine for about 3 years now, and I use it constantly with no issues.
I've had this for years and it's been great. It was my first Bluetooth speaker and it still works great. I've upgraded to the Bose, but I still use this one in my office. Read morePublished 10 months ago by Marlielayne
