There are some basic errors that may, or may not, have been caught by an editor, but I don't feel they detract from the story. Our minds tend to naturally correct some of them anyways. Anyone who has read the Twilight Saga or Hunger Games Trilogy can attest that an editor and publisher aren't a guarantee of proper grammar.
The story flows well and the characters are likeable enough. I feel that describing a character as "McHottie" or a house as a "McMansion" is completely legitimate and something people in the real world actually say.
"But this dad was something else, and the only pocket he belonged in was the one where I stored my George Clooney fantasies;" is my favorite line in the entire book. It put a picture into my brain that I couldn't shake loose if I wanted too, and I definitely don't want too, which is exactly what a good author does.
I look forward to reading Ms. Westmont's next book, if and whenever she publishes one.
The book itself was a fast page turner, steamy and a fun read. There are typos, some cliches, and some details that don't quite make sense. Many of these things would have been caught by an editor and a publishing house. Those items didn't really bother me. I thik the opportunity to self publish via an e-book is a great option, and I am willing to forgive some of the polish I might have expected if I paid for a full price book. The ability to put your book out there affordably is awesome.
I throughly enjoyed the book and the sexy scenes especially were well done and not romance novel drivel. This isn't high literature, but it was an entertaining read for darn sure. If you like "chick lit" it definitely fits the bill and is a amusing and enjoyable quick read.
Just a disclaimer: I don't know the author at all. I have read some of her blog which was easily found by a quick online search.
It's the best dollar I ever spent (which makes me sad as it was way underpriced), it was also worth breaking my NEVER reading a book on a digital device rule....
I have been reading Ms. Westmont's blog with growing interest for over a year. The major problem about this book for me is that it is overly autobiographical. Because I related many of the characters to be real flesh and blood people from the blog, I felt they tended towards the 2-dimensional side in the book (not always Ella's character, but more frequently Nick and Michael's).
That being said, I've read it three times now. I read Amanda's blog because her story and her perspective are interesting. It's an easy read. There are many parts where Ms. Westmont paints an artful picture. It's pretty sexy too. I mean, it's really hard to write in general, but probably crazy difficult to write something that is sexy without sounding trite and Ms. Westmont pulls it off (over and over) ;).
The story is believable (once you get passed the two-dimensional motivations of the characters) and easy to follow. It's a great book to read on vacation (or, ya know, everyday if you're me).
I'm excited to see what else the author creates. She's off to a great start.
