GRE: What You Need to Know: An Introduction to the GRE Revised General Test (Kaplan Test Prep) Kindle Edition
GRE: What You Need to Know
What can you expect from the GRE revised General Test? In Kaplan’s overview of the exam, you’ll get answers to questions on:
Exam structure and scoring: How do schools interpret your scores? Do all of the questions on the test count towards your scores? We break down the test’s format, and tell you how schools use your scores and percentile rankings in evaluating your application.
Adaptive testing: What exactly is an adaptive exam? The GRE is a Multi-Stage Test, which means that it adjusts the questions’ difficulty to your skill level. We tell you how to strategically treat each section to maximize your scoring potential.
Question types: Why is answer choice (D) never the correct answer to a Quantitative Comparison that has real numbers in both quantities? What’s the best way to take apart reading comprehension passages? We walk you through each of the question types that you’ll face on the GRE, and present the most effective approach to each one.
Study plans: What’s the best way for you to increase your score by Test Day? Get advice from Kaplan experts on the basics of setting up a maximally-productive prep schedule.
Kaplan will walk you through every aspect of the GRE, and help you make decisions that will enable you to become a strong graduate school applicant when the time is right.

I just wish there was an explanation concerning the weighting of each section. Are they weighted the same or differently? For example, if one is excellent at reading comprehension but under performs at quantitative application, should they work harder to reap the most points in the areas that come easy to them or work to get better on the areas of need? It touches on this but does not delve past the surface. Do schools look at the scores in each section or an overall score? I suppose I will need to buy the full version books to get my answers! :/

The Kaplan guides have been used here before. They seem to focus on the right stuff. The guide can/should be used for middle school and up through high school. Though used for grad-school application prep, the guide mentions that the GRE measures skills through high school. Not rocket sci, so what if students latched onto the "shortcuts" early in the game? Covers lots of "fundamentals" for adult post-grad students that may have missed in earlier learning. T&S

A very short summary of some of the changes made recently to the GRE. Does not really give examples, practice questions, or a full overview of sections (especially the math section). Not bad, but not the best, either

Does a good job giving an easily digestible overview and a few hints. A few examples did not format correctly for me on Kindle for Android.
It offers a few tips and tricks, but is by no means exhaustive.

This might be the only reason I passed my GRE. I never realized how much useless information we learned in high school until I had to try and remember it so I could take a test.

Good book but I think it could have harder problems to reflect what I actually saw on the test. I have to take it again because I bombed the integrated reasoning section.

Explains how the test is designed and its structure, as a guideline. Gives questions examples with answers. Good to learn about the test itself.
